Today from the Archive

On the list of Queen Elizabeth II’s Birthday Honours was a knighthood for the Indian-born novelist and essayist Salman Rushdie. Rushdie said he was “thrilled and humbled to receive this great honour.”

The announcement drew the ire of extremists who have dogged Rushdie since the publication of his fourth novel, The Satanic Verses. The Iranian foreign ministry has decried the knighting of this “hated apostate,” while protests have broken out in Malaysia, Kashmir, Pakistan, and London.

COMMENTARY is featuring, in our Today from the Archive section, pieces from Daniel Pipes, Midge Decter, and Hillel Halkin on the subject of Sir Salman, his novels, and the meaning of his literary achievement.

To do this to a major league baseball great like Richardson is really bad.

  2. Neo says:

Don’t forget that the Berg suit over Obama’s “natural born” status comes up again with the SCOTUS just a few days after the electoral college results report Obama the “hitter”. At that point, Berg will have standing.

  3. Ritchie Emmons says:

Has the “Culture of Corruption” label officially shifted from Republicans to Democrats?

  4. Thomas Aquinas says:

Does this make the New Mexico governor an Indian taker?

  5. Thomas Aquinas says:

“Has the “Culture of Corruption” label officially shifted from Republicans to Democrats?”

Now it’s the Multiculture of Corruption, a more inclusive form of wrongdoing.

  6. John Hartland says:

Gee. Obama jettisons Richardson before either of them takes office. Bush put the AIPAC Bund in the driver’s seat the entire time he was in office. But Commentary is one of the fellow traveling traitors that will say nothing about its deal citizen, America-subverting Bund. What a surprise.

  7. J Burke says:

I think it’s a serious embarassment, given the hoopla around the appointment just one month ago. Sloppy at the least. I’ve commented on my blog at:

  8. Magnolia says:

John Hartland,You are a useful-Idiot for the Islamic terrorists. Why don’t you go over to Gaza and join Hamas. They love to have you on their side.

  9. Eppur Si says:

#6, brilliant quip. Hope you don’t mind if I steal it.

Everyone is talking about the Obama team failing to vet Richardson. What about the MSM? Are they also unable to figure out how to use google? Or are they all still up in Alaska searching for dirt on Sarah Palin’s third cousin once-removed?

At least it took less time for this to come out than Rev. Wright’s anti-America diatribes. Those were so deeply hidden that you had to actually buy the tape on sale in the lobby to hear them.

I believe my name is “John Hartland, you Nazi”
