Linda Chavez on Obama and Race
Here at COMMENTARY, we’ve made available to all readers the important lead article of our June 2008 issue. It is called “Let Us by All Means Have an Honest Conversation About Race.” Its author, Linda Chavez, explains how the triumphant rise of Barack Obama demonstrates just how thoroughgoing is the sea-change in the United States on matters of race — and why, therefore, the fact of Obama’s association with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright and his insistence that Wright “contains within him the contradictions—the good and the bad—of the community that he has served diligently for so many years” is so troubling.
