CNN does a very fair job — finally — in this story of presenting the Bill Ayers story and reviewing some basic facts which don’t jibe with the “guy in the neighborhood” characterization of his relationship with Barack Obama. What is most clear from the story: Obama tried to minimize, if not outright lie, about the extent of the relationship. But to CNN’s credit, they also delve into Obama’s work on the Woods Fund which doled out money to Ayers’ Annenberg Challenge. (Once you start reading up on the Woods Fund, you realize how Obama treats conflicts of interest — he ignores them.)
So the question remains: where is the rest of the MSM? More importantly, isn’t it time to look at what the Annenberg Challenge did (promoted a lot of radical programs) and didn’t do (improve schools or spend tens of millions of dollars wisely) and what groups the Obama-Ayers run Woods Fund gave money to (e.g. the Arab American Action Network, ACORN, the Gamaliel Foundation)? Obama spent more years with Annenberg and Woods than he did in the U.S. Senate. It would seem to be a window into what he believes, whose counsel he keeps and how he manages large projects.
