House Votes Overwhelmingly to Support Israel

The House of Representatives, following the Senate’s unanimous vote, approved a similar resolution 390-5, with 22 voting “present.” Only one Republican voted “no”–you guessed it–Ron Paul. Although they only voted “present” (oh please, how pathetic is that), the usual anti-Israeli suspects were in that column–Jim Moran, John Dingell, Keith Ellison, Jim McDermott, and Pete Stark, to name a few.

So to be clear, we have on one side of the issue concerning the Gaza invasion the entire U.S. Senate and 390 members of the U.S. House (including the top leaders on both sides) and on the other we have the list above plus Pat Buchanan. And where does J Street stand? Well, they won’t really say, but in substance they seem to be with the Paul-Buchanan crowd.

Perhaps they should be renamed the Paul-Buchanan Street PAC.

“Just who does President Obama intend to fool?”

Now, Jennifer, why ask questions that you already know the answer to? In case you don’t know the answer, I’ll tell you:

    DEMOCRATS AND “PROGRESSIVE” LIBERALS

  2. Richard says:

Unfortunately he’s fooling way too many people, and has for the past 2 years. Pseudo-conservatives are just now (much too late) coming to realize what a radical liberal he is, even though the evidence was public knowledge throughout the entire campaign season. Those of us who opposed Obama, and continue to oppose him and his radical socialist policies are owed an apology by the many who were fooled. Obama, Pelosi and Reid are incredibly dangerous. The damage they are inflicting on this country will take decades to undo. He wants a crisis, a strawman, and the memories of President Bush to continue pushing his radical agenda on our nation. The destruction of wealth we’re seeing in the market plays into his socialist plans. Stalin would be proud of his protege.

  3. Ahithophel says:

The churlishness of the Obama administration is pretty remarkable. He’s never said the word “victory” in reference to Iraq, never credited Bush for the surge. He blames Bush for “the deficit I inherited,” but he supported what the Bush administration was doing from October-December of 2008. He’s used all kinds of rhetoric against Bush anti-terror policies, then he adopts those same policies without so much as a peep to say “Bush was actually right about this.”

Bush was nothing but gracious to Obama. Obama has been nothing but immature and exploitative, leaking on private conversations, etc. I think you must be right that Obama cannot say something positive about Bush because Obama intends to continue pillorying Bush for as long as he can. If he says something positive about Bush, not only would the hardcore left go apoplectic, but it would be quoted back to him when he supports candidates in 2010 and runs his own candidacy in 2012 on how badly Bush screwed up the country.

  4. Scott R says:

i never realized you could elevate the credo “form over function” to a long-term plan for governance.

  5. Jonas Menchik says:

Obama truly sees himself as the Messiah. I thought it would be 6 months in before we saw the Chas Freeman type picks, the attack on free markets, and talking about the “end of days”
I thought Obama would actually cash in on the hope and change mantra and win people’s confidence for at least 6 months before revealing his true radical, save the planet through me plans. He just couldn’t wait. The Global New Deal. ie. Salvation through Obama. In order to protect him from uncomfortable questions, the MSM is having a debate on the real definition of socialism, while Newsweek declares that we all are already socialists anyways. Remember how they mocked Joe the Plumber?

So now we see the “blame Bush” strategy presented when Obama is actually making decisions and is failing at a rate that is even or faster than the fall of the Dow. Where to turn? To better policies, centrist ideas, and a message of hope? No, its time to roll out the Bush pinata.

  6. JEM says:

Hey, consider who is chief of staff is and any of this surprises anyone? He has zero class, and just love how his economic “program” is coming along.

  7. Bob Miller says:

We have to deal with whatever it is that makes us gullible.

  8. Leonardo says:

I hope that the next GOP President, whoever it is and whenever he gets to the White House, has a long and good memory.

  9. Chris Bolts Sr. says:

I just noticed that Abe wrote this story. Ah well, I’m pretty sure he knows that I meant him…I hope. :P

  10. JEM says:

Yes, and remembers that when you forget what brought you and try to spend like a drunken Democrat, people might desire to have the real article.

  11. jrobinson says:

Why is this surprising? All of these moves to blame/indict/impeach the previous administration are typical Marxist moves. The only thing we can thank God for is that, in America, we still haven’t resorted to rounding up and shooting our political adversaries.

When Bush got in office, he INHERITED an internet bubble that had burst and the stock market had lost more value than the 1929 crash… THEN 9/11 happened. And all of you lefties laughed at Bush when he asked people to stay cool and “keep shopping”. Then what happened? We grew out of the recession, with steady growth that made Europe envious.

Now, here we are again at another economic crossroads, and we get to try the liberal democrat solution to recession: extort trillions of our grandkids money to install a socialist/marxist regime and destroy the foundations of this great country.

I would’ve rather stayed cool and kept shopping; that worked pretty well the last time.

  12. prose says:

Nah. He’s pretty much enraged his leftist bast with his Iraq plan and war on terror policy. This is just feeding them to quiet them down for some time. Next move, they’ll proceed against Karl Rove, Myers etc.

  13. elTaosneo says:

Richard – You’ve nailed it exactly. He’s got a stable of dupes willing to take “credit” for all these pieces of legislation, etc. Meanwhile, he’s pushing full steam to convert the US to another USSR.

  14. gopmom says:

What on earth were they thinking? Could they possibly have been anticipating a follow-up? Could they possibly have just been considering investigating any and all means to prevent another atrocity? Is it at all possible that the intention here was to find the organizers of any other possible attacks in the planning? After all, the guys that had just pulled off September 11th had been living here – for a decade in some cases – going completely unnoticed by even the local authorities, adapting to American life so fluidly that no one in their circle of family and friends had the slightest clue what they were involved in.

I suppose it is possible this small story will go completely unnoticed, what with the Sebelius nomination and the Rush Limbaugh speech causing heart palpitations in Liberals across the nation. And then, of course, there is the stomach turning 300 point nosedive of the Dow.

But why would the Obama administration want you to know the truly bad news? They want you to continue to focus your energy and angst on the Bush administration – you know, the guys that left Washington two months ago. They are the bad guys. They are the guys on whom to keep your eye. They’re the ones who believe you never want to let a good crisis go to waste. Oh wait, that’s the Dems.

  15. Rob Dawson says:

Distract, distract, while he makes off with a generation’s wealth…

  16. myna says:

“Just who does President Obama intend to fool?”

Obama cultist followers. You know who you are.

  17. chuck martel says:

Gee, classy move, releasing a secret memo from a conflict that’s still underway. It actually makes me feel better about the administration than before, although we don’t know if Yoo’s opinion was accepted by whoever was doing the accepting. I just can’t get my undies in a knot over the U.S. classifying terrorists as soldiers in an invading army, although they’re really stateless soldiers, ie. pirates and anybody, even me, has a license under international law to shoot them on sight.

  18. William says:

Could you be a more incompetent and dishonest reporter? If you’re going to let others do all the legwork, at least take the time to read their stories and report them accurately.

According to the same AP story you cite:
“While they were once important legal pillars of the U.S. fight against al-Qaida, some of the memos were withdrawn in the final days of the Bush administration.”

So yeah, some of the memos were rescinded — not in 2001 in the overheated days after 9/11 — but in 2008. Bush acted unlawfully outside of the Constitution for seven of his eight years in office.

Thanks at least for proving that the for-profit media will always produce a better product that the not-for-profit media. You’ve at least presented a case study in the superiority of capitalism.

  19. Banjo says:

Let’s face it, Bush is the gift that will keep giving for years and years to come. Maybe even as long as Hoover.

  20. Warpublican Review says:

What has little Abey is a schvitz tonight? Oh – it’s some Bush secrecy peeled away and revealed to the American people. So Bush considered scraping the constitution to arrest Americans witbhout charge – no big deal. That Obama is letting the American people know what kind of administration he replaced: Now THAT’s just plain UNGRACIOUS!!!
And remember folks – this has nothing to do with the truth – nah – our little Zionista knows what lurks in the heart of that evil Obama – this is distraction from the tanking stock market, I mean Obama’s tanking market: I know I forgot ALL about it – didn’t you?
And remember, everyone: Bush administration crimes are inconsequential. They really are. Just ask honest Abey…

  21. Margo says:

William, look at the weasel words you quoted. The memos were “once”–how long ago? important legal pillars. “Some” were withdrawn. So which memoes were once pillars and which were just recently withdrawn?

AP doesn’t want to get into that.

Can you say anything to Chuck Martel’s point? A stealth combatant who attacks civilian targets is not entitled to Geneva Accord protections, let alone the Constitutional rights of citizens.

  22. btenney says:

That would explain why he has been extraordinarily quiet these last several days.
In fact his tantrum late last week about fighting for his programs sounded like the 8th grade Geek just before going home and hiding under the covers.
I believe that before the end of April ,Barack will be called to take over Rev. Wright’s Ministry as the next step in his quest to become God.

  23. jrobinson says:

What we most definitely WON’T see is any secret documents referring to attacks that were thwarted. (And they are there libs, no matter your denial) This is a political hit job in the making, and it should make everyone’s stomach queasy.

  24. Obamaton says:

    William and Warpube,

what law did Bush supposedly break, and who but the usual idiots will be distracted by Obama’s typically sleazy smear job?

  25. William says:

    24
Bush didn’t break a law, he broke laws. And that is according to his own Justice Department, which found the basis for the memos in question defective. In short, the policies they supported were illegal.

This was long the position of civil libertarians, and now we learn that Bush’s own lawyers agree. So, please, give us your legal reasoning in arguing that Bush’s actions were legal. If he’s given up on defending them, why do you?

  26. William says:

Here’s a link that puts some meat on the bones of the AP story that Greenwald cited.
    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/03/02/AR2009030202906.html?hpid=topnews

As for the AP “not wanting to get into that,” maybe you don’t understand how wire services work. They get out the news in broad brushstrokes and then continually update the stories with more detail. Since the story that Abe Greenwald cited ran, the AP has added to it, and added additional stories with new details and analysis. Try Googling instead of making dumb and baseless accusations of bias.

As far as I can tell, Chuck Martel’s “point” about enemy combatants has nothing to do with the insane assertions that were contained in the memos in question; for example, that prisoners could legally be tortured, that the president could eavesdrop domestically without warrants, that the military could operate within the United States to conduct raids and seize property despite prohibitions precisely against such behavior by the Fourth Amendment, and even that the president had the right to suppress free speech and the press, in other words, suspend the First Amendment.

Even the Bush administration and its lawyers now concede that all of the above arguments are false and wrongly reasoned (illegal). So if you have an argument, take it up with the Bush justice department. Granted, it took them until five days before they left office to learn the law, but the lawyers in charge knew they would faced disbarment — and perhaps prosecution — if these fascist memos ever came to light.

This should end all debate about whether Bush was the worst president ever, or just one of the worst. He was clearly the worst.

  27. William says:

In waning days, Bush officials backpedaled on terror memos
    By MARISA TAYLOR
    McClatchy Newspapers
In a memo written five days before President Barack Obama took office, Steven Bradbury, the then-principal deputy assistant attorney general, warned that a series of opinions issued secretly by the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel “should not be treated as authoritative for any purpose.”

  28. Obamaton says:

    Swilliam,

again, which law(s) did President Bush break, you drooling imbecile?

You did answer my second question though. Thanks.

  29. Obamaton says:

    Swilliam,

again, which law(s) did President Bush break, you drooling imbecile?

You did answer my second question, though. Thanks.

  30. “again, which law(s) did President Bush break, you drooling imbecile?”

Come – it’s not like you care… But we’re gonna find out. Be prepared to see the Cowboy in chaines…

  31. chuck martel says:

How does a memo from John Yoo make George Bush a war criminal?

  32. Obamaton says:

    Warped Review,

why am I not surprised that you want Bush to be prosecuted for crimes he didn’t commit? He’s no longer the President, you mental case. It’s past time you let got over your BDS. You need to work on your PDS (Palin Derangement Syndrome) so that you’re ready for the 2012 election.
