Kathleen Parker frets. President Obama “appeared weak.” It is “amateur hour.” He is “not fully formed.” He “wants too much to be liked.” My, what a revelation it has been.
Excuse me, but this should not exactly come as a surprise. Indeed, the pundits told us many of these qualities were actually positive attributes in a president. We were tired of “macho, cowboy-style” presidents. We wanted someone who could admit error. We didn’t need someone with years inside the Beltway. Professional politicians got us into the mess, so we needed someone untouched — “unformed” I supposed — by the brew of D.C. politics to fix it. What was important was to be smart (which meant “degreed” not accomplished) and worldly.
The guy with the years of legislative experience, who understood the importance of projecting strength, who was going to stick to his guns and who had no tolerance for ethical missteps lost. We decided on change — an unformed premise for a presidency if ever there was one. So if we get a president who lacks executive acumen and “maturity”and appears to be a push-over, the voters have no one to blame but themselves. But they might have a bone to pick with all the pundits who thought none of this would be a problem.

If only Freeman had approved of violently cracking down on Palestinian civilians, like Goldfarb! Then he’d be in the clear. But still, I’m sure Michael cares very much about Chinese civilians and isn’t objecting out of bad faith or anything – that’s why he works for Bill Kristol, the, um, psychotic neocon who was banging the drums for a Sino-American war in 2001. Well, somebody has to keep him in D&D manuals.

…bill kristol’s psychosis notwithstanding, you still want to stand by the chas freeman view of america and the world? you think he’s the man to depoliticize the nic?
feel free to be a troll, dude – but, please, even you should have standards…
What the devil are you talkin’ about Jennifer?
The house of saud still loves him. And in Washington, those are friends indeed.
But even if this creature is purged, even if this creature is trodden under foot, even if this creature is brought to bay, ————– the line adopting the arab narrative perdures.
Number One and his cronies are circling the drain.
there won’t even be skidmarks left, when the flush comes.
I thought there would be an Obama meltdown during the campaign, where he would reveal his true intentions. I was def. wrong then, it would take 5 weeks into his presidency for that to happen.
Geithner can’t find his taxes or staffers. The Dow can’t find the bottom. Obama can’t find centrism or moderate cabinet picks. Lost at sea, and winging it!
As the commentator of day said, I really miss Bill Clinton.
Not to worry: Freeman still has Stephen Walt in his corner; and, according to him anyone who opposes him is ‘un-American’.
It’s possible in the case of Geithner’s deputies people with brains see this administration is a disaster. There’s no good reason to be tarred for the rest of your career because you worked in the government of a well-spoken clueless hack Chicago pol.
I’d say between the durban conference and chas freeman, commentary has well cornered the market on issues no one in the world cares about
You wish Lester!!!! Thank G-d for Commentary. The only thing you and your sheepish friends can do is to protect Obama from criticism. You can’t talk about the issues rationally, or consider the merits or demerits of Freeman. Do you consider the US Congress “no one”? Sure.
You damn well hope that no one cares about Freeman, so the administration can sneak in another radical, while the MSM feeds everyone the Kool-Aid. Bigger government, more intervention, and less opposition. That is the true Obama and his Obamacons. You take your marching order to this blog, to shut down the opposition, and leave Gibbs to bring down Rush.
Your game is up!!! You are such an obvious follower and a transparent fraud.
Who cares that Freeman expresses the feelings of many Americans (and many Israelis)?? Dissent will not be tolerated! The Lobby (which doesn’t exist) will destroy him.
Yep, there’s no “Israel” or Zionist or other pro-Israel lobby out there at all.
Just our imagination.
Even the excellent commentators at Commentary are imagining that their efforts to nix Freeman’s appointment for his pro-Saudi Sinophilia will amount to anything. Total delusion.
