Jindal’s Forthcoming Address

As we wait for Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal’s response to President Obama’s speech, a few thoughts:

1. Personally, I’ve never been a fan of these things. Responses rarely have any impact at all, and typically just make the people delivering them look like sour grapes.

2. For this reason, it’s a strange forum for Jindal’s supposed national political debut.

3. Still, I’m happy that a governor — and not a member of Congress — is giving this speech. Given the financial crisis and the battle in Washington over the bailout, the response would have looked more divisive had it come from a member of Congress. A governor, on the other hand, isn’t expected to work as closely with the president; in turn, a response from a governor doesn’t make things as confrontational.

One Response to “Jindal’s Forthcoming Address”

  1. Sebastian B. O. Bunionstow IV. says:

Jen, best to watch what Obama does not accept his words.

Rush is not the first conservative talk show host to be called out by the current POTUS.

During the campaign he was plenty small, calling out Sean Hannity repeatedly.

In a speech to Planned Parenthood, after he won the US Senate seat, he mocked Alan Keyes during his speech.

  2. Perfect job, Jennifer.

The petty smugness of this crew is stunning. They behave like adolescent bully boys, and this shows what their victory was all about. Do they have a plan? Doesn’t it seem that they are winging it, pretending they are grownups? The ugly triumphfulness, the swagger, it all adds up to an in your face adolescent shallowness. We see what they are all about. Isn’t it all about ” screw you?”

Any centrist who supported them must be having buyers remorse by now.

Screw the promised maturity, screw the other promises, we won, they say.

They won, alright, and now it’s time to patiently take them down, one peg or two at a time.

  3. Rob Dawson says:

I was pretty cynical about him during the campaign, but even I’m shocked at the brazen liar he’s turned out to be.

  4. Scott says:

Yes, there is plenty of acrimony and as it was during the Bush adminitstration it is coming from the Dims. “Dissent is the highest form of patriotism!” we heard adnauseum from “concerned” citizens of democratic left. And yet, when they hold all of the levers of power, when they still control the visual airwaves and the print medium; dissent is now verboten. Strange that this should happen.

I never heard GWB lash out at the doubters of his policies. He barely acknowledged their existence. Which in the end was to his detriment. Would that he had forgotten his manners every now and again and refered to Harry and Nancy as uncomprehending dolts. The country might have been the better for it for drawing attention to their collective stupidity.

We now have a POTUS living up to his admonishment during the campaign; fulfilling the very essence of “words. Just words.” The next 1415 days cannot go fast enough. With this start he is living up to the last confirmed know-it-all who inhabited 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Jimmy Carter is deserving as the worst President in the last 50 years. Barry will give him a run for his money.

He campaigned as a person who couldn’t believe how badly the Bush admin loused things up. Now he is learning the hard way that the easiest thing in the world is to critique another man doing the job. It is quite another to be in the big chair and be accountable to what goes on around you. Soon enough the adults can take over, but not until Nov. 2010. Not soon enough.

  5. JohnR223 says:

Look at the demographics of the tax protesters, all white, mostly working class, you know, the folks who will have to pay for all the grandiose programs. They are not happy, and probably feel like bitter clingers who do not feel included in all the hope and change.

They obviously did not hear the inauguration prayer that the white will do what is right.

Many of them, to judge by their clothes, don’t even seem to realize the white man’s greed drives a world in need. What’s the matter with these people!

  6. Rob Dawson says:

All that needs to happen is that enough of those protesters who aren’t feeling the hope and change and are actually still paying their mortgages decide it’s not worth it and the whole system comes down.

  7. seth swirsky says:

“Any centrist who supported them must be having buyers remorse by now.”

Why should they NOW as opposed to when those centrists learned of his 20 year! association with the anti-Jewish, blame America-first, black nationalist church that he was forced to quite?

Or when they heard him call white people “typical” white people”?

Or when they learned that Tony Rezko helped fund his house?

Or when they considered his incomprehensible dearth of experience especially during a time of war!

The hope is that the “centrists” you speak of will wake up from the Obama dream when they see the reality of the lessening worth of their children’s college accounts and their own 401ks.

Until we can get 60 votes in the Senate, Obama-Pelosi-Reid will try and rush through every bill that gives them more money to turn us into France or worse. Evan Bayh and even Russ Feingold now seem to “get” Obama, a hopeful sign.

  8. J.E. Dyer says:

Be careful what “unity” you ask for. You may get it.

Interestingly, Islam means both “unity” and “submission.” Maybe we need a new pop-psych book: The Submitted Electorate.

Unity is overrated. I’ll take principle and responsibility every time.

  9. Richard S says:

And don’t forget Emanuel’s rent-free place in Washington, at the residence of a Democratic pollster.

  10. materialist says:

    Sublimely subtle, JED!

  11. Maine's Michael says:

Robin Hood and Jesus, all rolled into one.

AND a wife with great biceps.

How can we be so lucky?

  12. Robert N says:

I am from Illinois and can tell you this is dirty Chicago Democratic politics at its finest. The ends justify the means! The issue is only about ONE THING: Entrenching the Dems in power for as long as possible! You have no idea how low these people will stoop to acheive their agenda!
