Re: We Know Nothing

The White House’s attempt to shove inquiry about Chas Freeman under the rug isn’t going so well. Republican Pete Hoekstra, ranking minority leader on the House Intelligence Committee, is calling on Freeman to step down and has sent his own letter to Admiral Dennis Blair, Director of National Intelligence.

The letter cites, among other things, Gabriel Schoenfeld’s Wall Street Journal op-ed detailing Freeman’s record on Israel and China. Hoekstra asks Blair how Freeman was vetted, whether Blair was aware of Freeman’s views and whether Freeman will recuse himself on issues relating to Israel, China, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia.

Good questions all. The White House might now be asked if they have an opinion on any of the foregoing.

  1. Bob Miller says:

What’s this “sinks” “hopes”? Aren’t grownups supposed to recognize the PA (and Hamas) for what they actually are? Anyone still harboring hopes that these cutthroats can be jostled into embracing true peace must be mad.

  2. Maine's Michael says:

    Bob Miller, exactly.

To the extent that Fayad was not representative of the ‘palestinians’, his departure from the scene is a positive development.

No ‘moderate face’ to which Israel can be forced to concede.

    Good by and good riddance.

Give me the honesty of Hamas, any day, rather than the death by a thousand cuts approach of holocaust denier and SS commandant Husseini -protege Abass.

  3. JW says:

I think that the top priority of President Obama’s foreign policy agenda is that of Reverend Jeremiah Wright, from Chicago, and Rashid Khalidi, from Brooklyn, namely, to destroy Israel. Giving any money to the P.A. or for “reconstruction” in Gaza is to give money to Hamas, and in addition, giving that money now, while Hamas is again sending rocjets into Israel, shows the intent of Obama.

  4. Rain says:

I think this is a welcome development for Farrakhan, etc.

Libs, dems, MOVEON, and CODEPINK’s cover for Hamas and Palestine will be removed.

Go! Obama… send the money to Hamas. Let Soros be your Ambassador to Hamas. Not the old Carter. He’s not young like you.

  5. cavalier says:

We may not want to shower excessive praise on Fayyad’s competance and honesty but it is almost certainly the case that he was just about as good as it could have gotten for the Palestinians. Indeed, before castigating Palestinina financial mismanagement we may want to take a look at our own Treasury. Now that Mr. Fayyad is free, perhaps we should consider him as a replacement for little Timmy. It is hard to imagine he could be much worse, and hey, maybe it will make us seem as a more “honest broker” in the Arab world.

  6. Yehudit says:

Great idea, cavalier. I was just going to add that I was under the impression that Obama WAS going to send the $1b right to UNRWA.

  7. GMS says:

    Jonathan,
You can doublecheck, but I am pretty sure Fayyad was not Harvard-educated.
