Wow, right twice in one day. What’s happening here? I was surprised to read Alexrod’s quote. I can only think that someone got it out of context, given what Obama’s been saying lately. It’s pretty clear that someone in the White House understands that the public is batsh*t angry about this.

  2. Don H says:

I believe you give Obama and team too much credit. The keen political radar had as much to do with the media covering for him as anything else. There were gaffes aplenty during the campaign: Rev Wright, grandma, let me eat my waffle, no press conferences, and statements that did not match history and reality. They were washed over by the adulation of a pliant media.

  3. BillO says:

Axelrod should have feigned outrage, like the rest of Washington, but he probably is right. Gallup shows Obama’s approval at 62%, steady for the past couple of weeks. Rasmussen’s presidential approval index shows Obama rising from +4 at the start of the week to +7 today.

So far, this week’s AIG bonus flap has had no impact on Obama’s approval rating. People are “outraged”, but recognize that it is pretty small potatoes. They are worried about the broader economy and keeping their jobs and finding affordable healthcare — all of the situatuons they trust Obama to improve.

  4. John Hartland says:

BillO, as long as Congress rectifies the situation with a bonus claw-back, you’ll be right. Team Obama has been in shake ‘n bake mode this week, but this too shall pass. As long as it’s taken care of, that is. The Axelrod quote is simply wrong. This one has captured public attention, and I think all parties concerned know it.

  5. American by Choice says:

BillO, you’re nearly right. They are desperatley worried and did trust him to fix those things. Right now they’re giving him the benefit of the doubt, because the alternative is too terrifying to contemplate. When they realize he’s not going to, his numbers will fall off a cliff. This is not a partisan comment; ’twas always thus.

  6. Mahon says:

#3: You are reading Rasmussen pretty selectively. Obama’s “Total Approve” is the lowest and his “Total Disapprove” is the highest since the Inauguration. The so-called Approval Index (strongly approve minus strongly disapprove) bounces around and is less meaningful. The +4 was an all-time low, so some recovery was likely. That said, not much has changed in the last week.

  7. Les Grossman says:

    time to put this phrase–
    *their widely admired political skills*–
    in scare quotes.

  8. Jonas Menchik says:

All the trolls can offer is, surprise! a poll.

The real show is this. Obama calls our economic situation near Depression. He has the cover to send out billion/trilions to prop up failed capitalists. They are now the perfect target. Geithner was quite aware of the bonuses. When those bonuses were given, the administration pulls the trigger. Drag out the evil capitalists and take that stimulus money back. Aren’t we heroes yet?

I think this quote fits perfectly, from the Big Lebowski

The Dude: Then you know he’s got emotional problems, man.
Walter Sobchak: You mean… beyond pacifism?

  9. elTaosneo says:

If “fail” means to fail to implement the radical agenda he plans for America, everyone better pray that he fails Big Time.

If he “succeeds” in filling out his NCAA brackets correctly….go for it. Otherwise, “Rock Chalk Jayhawk”.

  10. aardvarck says:

I think that the Obama crew was never really that good. It was simply that they were in a campaign where the only thing that counted was talk and image and they had the MSM slobbering all over them and licking the soles of their shoes. but now there ae real events and the MSM can’t quite gloss over real events and paint Obama as as sexy angel come to earth.

If you want a good measure of Obama’s judgment on financial transactions, revisit his housing deal with Tony Rezko. I am still waiting to see how they are going to manage the sale of those two pieces of property: each is necessary tpo the value of the other–and one is owned by a convicted felon now serving time in a federal prison and the other is owned by the president of the United States. They are going to have to launder the ownership of Rezko’s property. Keep your eyes open.

  11. Banjo says:

If we’re back to talking about the campaign, don’t forget about the utter ineptitude of John McCain as a candidate. He’d make anybody look good.

  12. myna says:

You are right! Obama is still love based on the poll. Just like Saddam Hussein enjoying his 99% approval rating.

  13. DarknessAtNoon says:

Like a suicide bomber, eh? I think Number One will live to regret that simile.

But let’s play with that a bit. Isn’t Barney Frank like a suicide bomber with his insistance on “affordable, but bankruptable housing”? Isn’t Chris Dodd like a suicide bomber in his “yes I did, no I didn’t, yes I did” re the AIG bonuses? Isn’t Harry Reid like a suicide bomber in his sneaking the AIG bonuses into the conference bill? Isn’t Nancy Pelois like a suicide bomber in her shredding of the Constitution with her confiscatory tax against the AIG bonuses? Isn’t Number One himself like a suicide bomber in his wrapping Timmy around his waist?

Suicide is painless? Not this time, Number One.

  14. Barbara says:

It’s like when things got really bad for the Delt’s. There’s only one thing to do: Road trip! Road trip! Road trip!

Only Obama is not only road-tripping literally, he’s road-tripping metaphorically, with jaunts to health care, cap’n trade, education, etc. etc.

He really is a terrible executive.

  15. bruce golgowski says:

Don H is correct. Obama ran a good campaign in the sense that he won. But had he not had a very simpathetic press and an tired republican organization to run against things would be different. He’s lack of executive expierence is clear now. Eventually his ideology/worldview will impact him and administration in a negative way. He may correct course, learn, grow etc…but he is who he is.
