We need a federal Government that is limited to National Defense, Border Security and a Monetary system.
All other functions sould be the responsibility of the States including Abortion, Medical care and welfare.
People deserve the Government they have. I guess we deserve OBama, as Germans deserved Hitler. After all we voted both in.
To pre-empt left-wing talking points…it’s all Bush’s fault and the de-regulation policies of the last eight years. YAWN!
This whole economic mess is the result of government intrusion into the private sector in their attempt to enact economic equality. Continued intrusion, or statism, will lead to even greater economic hardship. The idea that government control of markets will lead to prosperity is delusional and forwarded by people who are either misguided, power-hungry, or deranged.
If we really had free markets (something we don’t have now) there would never have been a housing bubble and therefore no financial crisis. If banana republic socialism is the way to go, why is Venezuela suffering from massive inflation, production shortages and shrinking personal liberties? The state is the oppressor, not the savior.
It is amazing that having the right people in power makes those people incredibly smart–or simply by re-locating to DC, IQ points soar.
I’m going to take up organizing election employees, especially those attached to campaigns by Democratic politicians. I see fertile ground here.
Excuse me, but the President has made it very clear he does not like big government. He has said so.
But Jen, you spoiled Neocon Jap, Number 1 tells us all the time (“as I’ve always said”) that he doesn’t like big government and simply looks for the most practical solutions to pressing problems. You and your silly notions about the Constitution. He’s not only the Messiah, he’s a Constitutional Law professor (or lecturer, or something – actually Posner and Easterbrook are also “Lecturers” – though query how much they’d enjoy the comparison) and former Pres ofthe HLR while neither you nor the James Parker Hall Distunguished Service Professor Epstein are anything of the kind so pipe down. (And please spare us any adendums on impact of citations and such).
