Much was made of a Hillary Clinton interview with NBC’s Ann Curry in which Clinton ruled out a future presidential bid. But the most interesting part was her response to the question as to whether she has been “marginalized” in the Obama administration:
“Ann, I find it absurd. . . . I believe in delegating power. You know, I’m not one of these people who feels like I have to have my face in the front of the newspaper or on the TV every moment of the day. . . . My goal is to be a very positive force to implement the kind of changes that the president and I believe are in the best interests of our country. But that doesn’t mean that it all has to be me-me-me all the time. I like lifting people up. . . . I am part of the team that makes the decisions.”
In front of the newspaper and on TV every moment of the day? Me-me-me? Ahem. Are there some, er, unresolved issues between Hillary and her boss? (It does have the feel of a Saturday Night Live skit — “What, ME feel the need to do five talk shows and sit in every sports broadcast booth in America?! Not me!”)
Well, aside from the not-very-submerged hostility toward her supervisor, even Clinton can muster only the weak explanation that she’s “part of the team that makes the decisions.” Probably not exactly what she had in mind when she took the job, you know, from the man who feels that incessant need to be on TV all the time.

you want the truth YOU CAN”T HANDLE THE TRUTH.
we can actually
for #1. “Nothing lies like a picture” (Eddie Adams, Vienam era photographer on his shot of RVN shooting a Viet Cong who had just murdered women and children.)
not familiar with that one.
We must put away childish things, like Greenwald’s sadistic torture fetishism.
4-Maybe you haven’t read Contentions’ posting rules:
Between CIA leak(s) and releasing these photos, the administration has to know that if they proceed the fragging of a century awaits them and their demise.
Their “we were virgins up until the Bush administration” schtick is only gratifying for the Jonestowners. Every other red, white and blue American will be calling foul.
Those other Americans, also red, white an blue, who think the power vacuum can be left unfilled or filled by someone other than us are too naive and too few to have to consider.
Childish things: transparency and rule of law.
You are right. These things should be nothing to a U.S. president.
If Obama decides not to release the photos, his PR machine- well, the one he has beside himself, whenever he’s awake- will portray this move as showing how magnanimous he is.
This reminds me, without suggesting the level of evil is remotely commenusrable, of how the mullahs held those British soldiers hostage, claiming they were aggressors, and then released them, telling the world how this showed how merciful and forgiving the Islamic Republic is.
Obama, of course, decided to release the photos, and now he’s not only going to sidestep the divisiveness the photos would cause but use his decision to halt the release to bolster his image. We’ve got a narcissist of epic proportions on our hand.
I thought the release of the photos was one in which his hands were tied because they were part of a FOIA request? and that the request had been ordered as part of a court ruling? (a ruling his admin chose not to appeal?
I only wish Bill Kristol had a better track record in the prediction department.
usinkorea: Obama could prevent their release with an Executive Order tomorrow.
Yes please! Please go further still; publish those accursed “Torcher” videos and Abu Ghraib photos….there is no sense saying, NOW, that this will inflame the Arab World and bring retalation!
I wonder how many on the “Arab Street” actually SAW the Mohammed Cartoons, before going on rampage…and how many will actually SEE the photos and videos before cursing George Bush and vowing vengeance yet again!
“They” don’t need a public display to vent; All “they” need to know is that you are still warm and breathing! That’s why “they” torture and murder and desecrate bodies: If you can’t feel their pain in your flesh, what good are you?!
Publishing or not publishing: It really doesn’t matter to “them”, who hate you with or without photos, videos or reason!
Just one little thing: The captions on the photos COULD say: “Dear, dear Muslim Brethren; I, Barry, want to apologize deeply and sincerely for what my Crusader people have done to our brothers….”
But the captions SHOULD say: THIS IS WHAT AWAITS YOU, SCUM-DOGS, IF YOU PLAY WITH AMERICAN LIVES: REMEMBER THE SOMALI PIRATES
“I thought the release of the photos was one in which his hands were tied because they were part of a FOIA request?”
The government always has the right to deny FOIA requests–or to redact them heavily–to protect national security (or even proprietary information). Many are the FOIA responses I have received that consisted of a cover page followed by hundreds of pages of blacked out text and illustrations.
