Mary Anatasia O’Grady writes on the elections in Honduras:
Unless something monumental happens in the Western Hemisphere in the next 31 days, the big regional story for 2009 will be how tiny Honduras managed to beat back the colonial aspirations of its most powerful neighbors and preserve its constitution. Yesterday’s elections for president and Congress, held as scheduled and without incident, were the crowning achievement of that struggle. National Party candidate Porfirio Lobo was the favorite to win in pre-election polls. Yet the name of the victor is almost beside the point. The completion of these elections is a national triumph in itself and a win for all people who yearn for liberty.
Sadly, this triumph (and the resulting bloody nose for Hugo Chavez and his lackey Manuel Zelaya) comes despite — not because of – the Obami. They, of course, jumped to the conclusion that the effort to stave off Chavez’s influence and prevent an unconstitutional power grab was a “coup.” They proceeded to bully and bluster, to try to strong-arm the small democracy. It didn’t work. Slowly it dawned on the “smart” diplomats that they had backed a lunatic who had no domestic support within Honduras and that, just as their critics claimed, the only way out of this stand-off was to conduct and accept the results of a free and fair election.
O’Grady, however, is hopeful: “President Obama came to office intent on a foreign policy of multilateralism. Perhaps this experience will teach him that freedom does indeed have enemies.” Well, we can hope.
But in this case, the Obami, who had resisted the wishes of the Honduran people and its democratic institutions, wound up with egg on their faces. Apparently they hadn’t even read the multilateral tea leaves very well:
Almost 400 foreign observers from Japan, Europe, Latin America and the U.S. traveled to Honduras for yesterday’s elections. Peru, Costa Rica, Panama, the German parliament and Japan will also recognize the vote. The outpouring of international support demonstrates that Hondurans were never as alone these past five months as they thought. A good part of the world backs their desire to save their democracy from chavismo and to live in liberty.
What is disturbing is that Obama did not count himself among those desiring to back “their desire to save their democracy from chavismo and to live in liberty.” It’s hard to fathom what motivates the president and his team, and why they seem so reluctant to oppose our allies’ enemies. Perhaps they have so internalized the criticism leveled by America’s foes that they can no longer discern when the gang in Foggy Bottom is being “played” and what is in our own national interests. We do have them — national interests, that is — and it would be nice if the Obami recognized, articulated, and vigorously defended them, regardless of how loudly Brazil, Venezuela, and much of the rest of the “international community” squawks.

Don’t forget that Obama isn’t just a shriek-attracting charm Phee-nom. If you ever listen to the guy, what he says is what millions of fundamentally nannyish women think — and simply love to hear from a clean, articulate, good-looking man. Obama doesn’t look, act, or come off as a sniveling, self-absorbed, overgrown wimp, as Bill Clinton did (and does). He’s the successful, hyper-perfect guy in a well-cut suit who AGREES with an earnest, muddle-headed, socially interventionist woman’s view of the world, and makes her yearnings sound as politically transcendant as she has always known, deep down, they really are, and should be recognized as. He’s the “At last I’ve found him!” guy, the one so many women, stuck in this world of inarticulate, faintly smelly guys with communication “issues” and project car fetishes, have despaired of.
If he weren’t running for president, Obama would be a superb Ponzi scheme salesman. Incidentally, the foolishness of women over such men has only one match in our universe: the foolishness of men over young women who offer no attributes whatsoever but youth, and skin that doesn’t sag yet.
“Let’s hope enough women (and men) haven’t lost their minds entirely as they assess the demands of a real world in which talk, conciliation and tears don’t work magic.”
You are only speaking about 40% of the electorate. This is about the same total Barry Goldwater and George McGovern received on Election Day. The majority of American voters are likely to keep their head and reject the Kool-Aid drinking campaign of “Barry” Obama.
Austan Goolsby of the University of Chicago has disgraced himself. Obamas’ academic advisors must not be allowed to get away saying one thing among their yuppie buddies—and something entirely different to the lower educated Democratic Party Bubbas. Someone like Goolsby must be made to pay a huge price for his mealy mouth dishonesty.
So the main question for the general election is how does McCain translate, “Yes, dear – you’re right, dear” into political language so he can get back to watching the game.
McCain’s support for “campaign finance reform” reflects a decidedly feminine and nannyish view of politics, in which the political arena is seen as a kindergarten class to be controlled by the teacher to prevent any pupil from having his or her feelings hurt by “unfair” arguments, unfairness being defined solely at the discretion of the teacher. The “corruption” rationale for such “reform” is a fairly transparent pretext for rigging the debate to suit the left, as McCain’s unabashed sympathy for Democrats being attacked by the right (e.g., John Kerry in 2004, Max Cleland in 2002) shows.
I submit that many who post and comment at this site are imagining a McCain who really isn’t there.
To continue my point, McCain also reflects a rather nannyish point of view on his other signature domestic issue, immigration. When one excises the profanity, his position seems to translate into: “Oh, how could we be so heartless as to send away the poor little dears?” The impact of the presence of the millions of illegals on our economy, on the fortunes of poor and working class American citizens, on government finances, and on our civic culture simply do not count for him; the overwhelming imperative is to be “nice,” as “nice” has been defined by leftist shapers of public opinion.
It is difficult to interpret McCain’s capture of the GOP nomination as anything other than a capitulation to the victory of the left in the battle for public opinion. Perhaps this is our only option, but self-deception about what is going on serves no purpose.
“I submit that many who post and comment at this site are imagining a McCain who really isn’t there.”
I am actually very well aware of John McCain’s nannyish propensities. He is also guilty of “good person” anti-intellectualism. His positions on campaign reform, illegal immigration, and global warming leave much to be desired. Nonetheless, he is the lesser of evils. McCain is fortunate to be running against “Barry” Obama and his utopian Kool-Aid drinkers. This election is his to lose.
It used to be appeal to your party then after the nomination move center. MacNasty has turned the first part around using liberals & independants to garner the nomination, but now seems to stay there & the hell with conservatives.
Meanwhile the gop establishment can’t uderstand why money isn’t pouring in from idiots who vote. Ranking establishment are calling these people all sorts of names (but not the illegal middle name…yet).
And MacNasty bumbles on
Its the white male vote (those unruly, angery, nativist, bigoted, misogimist, nathanderal, racist, gun owner etc) who make the differance in the election…but we don’t talk about that, who elect the president.
“If he weren’t running for president, Obama would be a superb Ponzi scheme salesman.”
Isn’t that what our government is already?
Obama has definetly jumped the shark. I could tell that was the case last night when I couldn’t keep up with the deluge of articles that I wanted to post.
Another sign today…someone from The Nation magazine said Obama has definitely going to win today.
Here’s my favorite article so far today:

See you Late tonight, bye Jan
Re The Nation…I meant to say Obama is going to win in Nov.
Did anyone else notice that there’s an ad for “Asian girls for love & marriage,” complete with photos, right next to this comment board? That’s hilarious. (Sorry, no nudes, although two of them do come from Guongdong.) Not all American men eat quiche, I guess. Hillary and girlie-man Obama would be so peeved.
If there are any hot Asian girls on this board looking for love & whatever, I’m currently single, so you have my vote.
Jan – I thought that the Building a Religion video you linked yesterday crystallized the conversion of Obamamania from “cool” to “how could anyone have ever thought THAT was cool?” – but the best evidence that Obama may really have jumped the shark is his slippage in the Rasmussen daily tracking poll, which today has McCain opening up to a 5-point lead, and, even more interesting from the perspective of horse race analysis, has him further ahead of BO than of HRC. I can’t recall the last time I saw results like that anywhere. It seems to me that it’s been a very long time since any major poll clearly suggested that Hillary was as or more electable than Barack.
It also lends credence to a scenario that’s been around for a while, and that Mara Laisson mentioned today on Fox: What if BO has a small delegate and primary popular vote lead, but is tanking in the polls as the latest primaries and the convention approach?
It’s in the nature of speculative bubbles to crash swiftly, when they crash. It’s not yet been shown that, if O-mania is turning into a negative, Barack has deeper personal and political resources to draw on.
It could be that I’m just not ready to see the competition come to an end, but I still think that, though it could already be over, or over by Tuesday, the most we can say is that it’s almost over – which also means it’s only almost almost over – which means it may not be over by a long shot.
(ZZ – your mileage may vary – I’m getting served an edmunds.com ad – which makes sense since I probably have some edmunds cookies on my hard disk.)
CK, I don’t think I can top this article from the Wash Times…It recalls so many happy events in history…like “The Obama Youth period,” and will they be turning in their neighbors or parents for deficiency in their adherence to the party line?

I’m truly creeped out now.
No Obama is not going to win this election. His not winning is a win for America.
Both he and his wife are a disgrace to America
Has America’ s standard have gotten so low,we would actually vote for this scrum-ba, con artist and that is all he is.
The Democrats at large need to grow up and be adults. The President of the United States needs to 1. pro-america 2. not a muslin 3. Love America and be a 4. God fearing christian.
