You know things aren’t going well for Democrats when Blue States like New York, Illinois, and Connecticut become real pick-up opportunities for Republicans in 2010 Senate races. In New York, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand may be in trouble, either from a Democratic primary challenger or a Republican opponent. The chairman of the state’s Conservative party remarks: “Clearly she is unknown, that’s No. 1. No. 2, she has flipped on every given issue so I think she’s weakened herself upstate where initially that was her strength.” But there is something else as well — that “trial of the century.”
After all, she hasn’t opposed the administration’s gambit to try terrorists in the U.S. She and her fellow Democrats had the chance to block funds for terrorist trials and again to cut off funds for refurbishing Supermax prisons to house them here. But instead, the Democratic Senate enabled the Obama administration’s decision, one that is overwhelmingly unpopular. In the general election, Gillibrand may face Rudy Giuliani, who would make this a top issue. But what about New Yorker Debra Burlingame? No sign that she is yet interested in running. But she and her grassroots organization may make Gillibrand’s campaign dicey. Why is it that Gillibrand didn’t do what she could to block KSM’s trial? Well, she’ll need to answer that — if she makes it to the general election.

Interestingly, revelations about Obama’s connections, actual beliefs about America, etc., don’t seem to have done much yet to erode his Democratic support. One could say that’s because his supporters are so blinded by his aura and mystique. However, we should realize that the hard left aspects of the real Obama are shared by many Democrats, who regard these as positive features and not flaws.
This will be popular and it will get positive airtime from a media that is not willing to criticize Obama. Back when the “Obama-girl” videos came out, there were 8 viable candidates for president across both parties, and most television media outlets spent whole segments talking about this fluffy, substanceless video endorsing Obama that works with people who are fluffy and substanceless.
Remember, his is a Mega-Church.
Just to add to Bob’s point, to the extent the Obama mystique blinds many Dems, the opposite effect is taking place among Republicans and, I submit, the majority of independents. The latter groups have no rosy-tinted glasses on and are already weary of the second coming nonsense. His minister — who is still on the campaign staff, I believe — will remind many R’s and I’s that there is an ugly side to the Obama phenomenon.
“His minister — who is still on the campaign staff, I believe — will remind many R’s and I’s that there is an ugly side to the Obama phenomenon.”
That’s an understatement if I ever heard one.
If further evidence that the far left lives in a fantasy world is needed, the trifecta formed by Wright, Stone and Moveon.org lays it on with a trowel. None of these people has the slightest clue how the average American thinks. Hollywood makes bleak movies nobody wants to see, the Reverend Wright goddamns America and the Soros billions finance an organization that thinks more like Dennis Kuchinch than anyone you’ll find on Main Street (unless he’s bearded, wears a baret and a sandwich board). The McCain blowout is looking likelier by the day.
If I was in church and my pastor gave a rant like the one we just saw, I’d leave that church and never come back (unless maybe a new pastor replaced him). Obama however, not only didn’t leave, he has been there for 20 years and had JWright baptize his kids. I’m not one of those people who thinks that Obama is an America hater, but I must admit I’m beginning to have my doubts. A racist JWright on his staff and his pastor for 20 years. Michelle Obama’s anti-America tirade that was later massaged by “Barry” (there you go David Thompson) rather than repudiated. His decision to not put his hand over his heart for the National Anthem(??). His decision to remove the American flag pin from his lapel. I know the last two are merely symbolic gestures, but why do them? Is it that difficult for him to put his hand over his heart, or to continue pinning a flag to his lapel? To discontinue hand/heart and flag/lapel speaks a whole lot more than doing them in the first place.
When Obama first came on the scene, I disagreed quite vehemently with his policies, but I liked him on a personal level. I’m beginning to no longer like him on a personal level.
This is going to be a blowout for McCain. Obama’s supporters are really living in their tralala land. I would not be surprise if Obama get elected, they will push the fairness doctrine and one by one all conservative bloggers and radio or any appearance of criticizing Obama will be closing shops. Remember, human are prone to fanaticism and zealousness. Look at the Chinese killing their people in the name of communism, fanatic muslims killing in the name of Allah and Hitlers killing the jews.
I can see now where the rhetoric from Michelle Obama where coming from and 20 years is a long time association. Is it there was a saying ” repeat a lie long enough and sheep will believe it to be true.”
To top it off — has anyone seen the Jimmy Kimmel Show videos that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have been involved in where they use the “f” word bleeped out on ABC. These videos are apparently all the rage with some comedienne named Sara Silverman. Just disgusting. I was shocked. Came on right after the Oscars. It’s just delightful television for young audiences. Just the type of upstanding types Obama should be proud of.
Alix,
those videos were hilarious.
