“Dang”

Maybe John McCain uses that expression, but it and everything about his latest ad reeks of phoniness. John McCain at the border, inveighing against crimes (home invasions, murder) by illegal aliens. The border guard declares, “You’re one of us.” For a man who made immigration reform his signature mavericky legislative project, this is pretty shameless stuff. Yes, the Arizona immigration bill is popular. And yes, he’s in a close primary. But is this going to convince any rock-ribbed conservatives that he is “one of them”? I sort of doubt it.

As long as she doesn’t say they have to listen to Big Brother…

  2. Dave says:

Can someone answer me this– is Cindy McCain speaking at the convention?

Why oh why do we live in an age where political spouses are expected to speak. . .

  3. MartyH says:

    Dave-

Remember, the woman speaking now is one of the two wisest people the presumptive Democratic nominee knows. Of course she’s going to share of that wisdom with us.

  4. MagicalPat says:

    Will grandma speak next?

  5. YbA says:

    grandma?

The one he couldn’t disown like Wright?

  6. addison says:

    Dave,

I don’t know. I think the spouses of candidates typically only hurt, not help, the candidate. Few people are going to say, “Well, he’s got a great wife so he must be a great guy. Put me down for that guy!” They will say, “Wow, his wife is an absolute jerk (if not stranger language); if she’s so hostile and angry and he’s always yapping about hope, how come he can’t bring her some hope?”

  7. addison says:

    What would Grandma say?

“My ungrateful charlatan of a grandson, whom I cared for and reared through most of his childhood, called me the moral equivalent to a raving bigot and conspiracy theorist because I didn’t want to be attacked by a hobo who happened to be Black. Obviously I did a poor job where values were concerned.”

  8. addison says:

    “stronger” language, not “stranger” language.

  9. DocC says:

I just cannot get over the image of the 3:00 A.M. phone call and The One turning over in bed to “Mean America Michelle” and asking her for advice! And then phoning his grandma, the typical white person. Wow!!
