By more than a 2-to-1 margin, Americans support the pursuit of criminal charges in the nation’s worst oil spill , with increasing numbers calling it a major environmental disaster. Eight in 10 criticize the way BP’s handled it – and more people give the federal government’s response a negative rating than did the response to Hurricane Katrina. This is not purely a Republican reaction. (“Even among Democrats, 56 percent rate the federal response negatively. That rises to 74 percent of independents and 81 percent of Republicans.”) But it is confirmation that when you are president, you can’t skirt responsibility by blaming others. The public can detest the performances of BP and Obama.
It also suggests that Obama is no longer able to get his own party to rally around the flag. Democrats, like other Americans, are holding Obama responsible for his actions. That’s very bad news for a president who has proven to be a classic underachiever.

We won the war, and nobody noticed, because of a pregnant teenage girl.
If I didn’t love America so very much, at times I’d hate this country.
” and it was the strategy of working with Sunni tribes to defeat insurgents that lead to this parade.”
Once we leave Iraq, the Shiite Clerics will be running the show. The Shiite Clerics are running the show in Iran. Maliki has close ties to Iran. Are we being outmaneuvered?????
America is friend to all peoples. That truth must ring out and be renewed in every action we undertake. That truth is our core. It rings loud when we persevere and see the hard things through. When we pay the price, bear the burden, that others won’t, to ensure the survival and success of liberty. Triumph and glory to those heroic warriors, thinkers, humanitarians of our armed forces, and to the brave Iraqis, who suffered so much, yet refused to be victims. This victory is theirs to carry forward into a better life for their nation. With the right leadership, may our country will continue to be with them.
Bad news! Surge successful, Al Queda defeated, Iraq peaceful, U.S. economy grows at 3.3%, Gustav not God’s blessing after all, Republican Governor Jindal manages disaster and emergency preparations masterfully.
Aw . . . good news: Palin’s daughter is pregnant and her husband had a DUI 22 years ago.
It’s tough being a Democrat.
BO can’t recognize Anbar because it doesn’t fit the campaign scenario. America lost the war some time ago, according to Harry Reid, and now events must conform themselves to that understanding to be acknowledged. Meanwhile, the NYTimes today had THREE stories on Page One about the pregnant teenager.
“One of the most shameful aspects of Barack Obama’s campaign has been his refusal to acknowledge the full scope of our troops’ accomplishments in Iraq.”
Yeah, doubting the mission is doubting the troops. Something tells me you’ve never had any real contact with our fighting forces, else you’d know that service to country transcends any war.
School us, Jay, you of presumably ample real contact with our fighting forces, as to what in the hell “service to country transcends any war” is supposed to mean.
Michael Phelps put in a great effort. Michael Phelps won. Both true statements, but the former hardly captures the import of the latter.
Our troops have won a war. I am sorry if this offends you.
Without our national will, dangerously threatened by the left, our troops could very well have lost. But our national will held this time. Barely. There are greater tests coming.
