Obama’s Chat with the Rabbis

Just before the Jewish New Year, Obama had a conference call with a group of rabbis. (These calls, by the way, are invariably cringe inducing, most especially last year’s, when Obama told them to go hawk ObamaCare from their bimas.) This time, Obama solemnly instructed the rabbis not to take seriously anything the Palestinians and Israelis say about the peace talks in public. Honestly, the talks are going great. We know, because the president is “stunned at how cordial and constructive the talks were.” I wonder if he’ll be stunned when they collapse. In other words, the fact that Abbas continues to vilify the Jewish state (presumably now both in English and Arabic) and threatens to walk out in no way indicates that he’s not serious about peace, you see.

Meanwhile, for a dose of reality, Charles Krauthammer explained to us why Mahmoud Abbas has zero incentive to stick it out:

You don’t need to be prescient to see that coming. Abbas has already announced that is what he’ll do. That would solve all of Abbas’s problems. It would obviate signing on to a final settlement, fend off Hamas and make Israel the fall guy. The trifecta. Why not walk out? The world, which already condemns Israel even for self-defense, will be only too eager to blame Israel for the negotiation breakdown. And there is growing pressure to create a Palestinian state even if the talks fail — i.e., even if the Palestinians make no concessions at all. So why make any?

Too bad the president and rabbis didn’t discuss that, nor presumably the real threat to Israel’s and our security — the looming possibility of a nuclear-armed Iran.

I have to disagree. It is only lack of judgment if you assume that Harry Reid or Chuck Schumer are upstanding patriots who would be terribly sorry (after the fact) to have ruined a company to score a point.

I do not assume that. And as long as their remarks do nothing to damage them politically, what we have here is not a lack of judgement. It´s perfidy.

  2. Democrat says:

Gee, Jennifer, maybe if everyone pretends there isn’t a big insurance company on the brink of insolvency, then we can all ignore the problem and hope it goes away. That’s what Republicans in the House of Representatives like to do, isn’t it? And what’s this about blaming Schumer for the failure of your cronies at IndyMac?

You’d better hope the federal government can keep this thing together, because if they can’t then the Republican Party will be justifiably blamed by everyone for the catastrophe that comes. Keep your fingers crossed, Jenny.

  3. Alexander Almasov says:

The demonstrated rat may be smart, but it sure is boring.

  4. Vail Beach says:

    “Democrat” is an economic illiterate.

It’s one thing to say the industry is in trouble. Everyone knows that.

It’s quite another to say “I have inside information that a brand-name insurer is about to fail.” When that insider is the Senate leader, the street listens and reacts.

Reid is violating his public trust in revealing inside information this way. I hope the SEC is monitoring the stock trades of Reid’s family, staff and other insiders. It wouldn’t be the first time Reid abused his public position to enrich himself and his friends.

  5. CFB says:

I don’t want to jinx the election. But the fact that these people are not only likely to be in control in January, but to increase their power, really is terribly distressing. With McCain sagging in the polls, I am literally losing sleep that this lying fraud Obama is going to be in the White House.

  6. el gordo says:

Note that Schumer is the guy who claims to know to the cent how much an increase in oil production would bring down oil prices as long as the oil is pumped in Saudi Arabia. In the same breath, we did tell us that oil production in the US is completely futile. You must assume he is not stupid: he really does not care about adding a hundred thousand additional jobs in the US.

Schumer on the Senate floor in May: In fact, if Saudi Arabia were to increase its production by 1 million barrels per day that translates to a reduction of 20 percent to 25 percent in the world price of crude oil, and crude oil prices could fall by more than $25 dollar per barrel from its current level of $126 per barrel. In turn, that would lower the price of gasoline between 13 percent and 17 percent, or by more than 62 cents off the expected summer regular-grade price – offering much needed relief to struggling families.

We could add a million barrels per day in the US easily, but in the words of Harry Reid: “Coal makes us sick. Oil makes us sick.” Right. Unless it´s pumped in a hostile country.

The rational conclusion is serious intellectual and character flaws or outright criminality. Can you think of anything else?

  7. el gordo says:

“Democrat” is proof that the McCain campaign does reverse astroturfing. They have people pretending to be liberal bloggers making extremely inane comments on conservative sites to keep the base energized. Genius.

I mean, if you were going to make such an idiotic statement you wouldn´t call yourself “Democrat” unless you´re a rightwinger.

  8. Democrat says:

el gordo, apparently you missed the subject of this thread. You might try reading it again. Of course, I realize that Republicans hate to read. Elitist and all that.

  9. el gordo says:

Why, Democrat, I was commenting on Schumer´s and Reid´s utter baseness (see #1). Do you not want to know or do you simply not care?

  10. james23 says:

Hey wait a minute. I thought the Senate was the “cooling saucer,” applying its elite judgment and sensitivity to keep the ship of state afloat in stormy seas causes by the ignorance of the common folk and their representatives in the other chamber?

btw, after two calm days following the House’s action, the market again tanked following last night’s panic-fest in the Senate. We’re from the Senate, and we’re here to help!

  11. RPM says:

Democrat, you genius bastard! Keep up the good work! ;)

  12. el gordo says:

A true Democrat would care about the damage Reid does to his party as well as the country.
Nobody disputes the fact that Reid is pathologically opportunistic and says whatever comes into his mind. By now he contradicts himself on an hourly basis (“We need McCain!” “Go away McCain!”). This will not end well.

  13. Democrat says:

el gordo, if I were you I’d avoid the subject of flip-flopping, erratic, senile old frauds.

  14. el gordo says:

if I were you I’d avoid the subject of flip-flopping, erratic, senile old frauds.

But that would make me a Democrats and in that case, yes, I would. After all, Reid and Pelosi are almost as old as McCain and Democrats constantly remind us that McCain could drop dead any minute. It is understandable that they are worried: Pelosi is third in line of succession after all (quick, google “Biden aneurysm”).

One also must wonder if there isn´t some sort of projection going on. A timely end for these two could save the Democrat Party from a lot of embarrassment. Deep down inside they must count the days, but who would admit something like that?

  15. Democrat says:

Reid and Pelosi are almost as old as McCain

That doesn’t surprise me about Reid. I’d never support him for president; he’s too damn old. But it does surprise me about Pelosi. I looked it up and saw that she’s four years younger than McCain. She seems 25 years younger. Maybe that’s because McCain is 72 going on 90.

  16. el gordo says:

    It´s called Botox.

  17. RPM says:

It’s cheap and easy for the young to make fun of the old, democrat. But then that’s your style. Oh so classy. But your time will come too. And I hope some young miscreant punk you’ve helped create finds it fun to kick you. You ever land an aircraft on a carrier at night? I’m thinking probably not.

  18. Democrat says:

RPM, respecting the senile doesn’t mean making them president. By the way, McCain’s fellow pilots called him “Ace,” because he managed to lose five American aircraft.

  19. RPM says:

Aviators call each other all kinds of things, within their exclusive club. Would you like to detail those five incidents for us though? Wasn’t one of them hit by a misfired friendly zuni on the deck of the Forrestal?

  20. el gordo says:

The subject here is not McCain but Schumer, Reid and their selfish and unethical behaviour.

Whenever their heroes are challenged, liberals change the subject because they have no explanations and no excuses. That´s how they get by. They can only attack but never look at themselves. They can repeat talking points they barely understand (see #18)

So let´s not change the subject.

  21. Forbes says:

Reid “is not personally aware” of any particular company being in trouble and has “no special knowledge” on the topic.

It gos without saying that Reid has “no special knowledge” on any topic.

  22. Democrat says:

Aviators call each other all kinds of things, within their exclusive club. Would you like to detail those five incidents for us though?

    1. He crashed a jet into Corpus Christy Bay while practicing landings.

    2. He crashed a jet into power lines while flying too low over the Iberian Peninsula.

    3. He crashed a Navy trainer that he was flying to a football game.

    4. He was in a jet that was hit by a stray missile while parked on the deck of an aircraft carrier.

    5. He was shot down over North Vietnam, and then taken prisoner. Rarely mentioned is that, while on that mission, he was flying lower than authorized, which put him in range of the anti-aircraft guns to begin with.

Oh, and McCain finished 884th in a Naval Academy class of 889. If he hadn’t had a well-connected father, they’d have never let him into a jet in the first place, let alone kept him there after his first three crashes.

  23. Democrat says:

p.s.: McCain’s father was an alcoholic. He wife is a drug addict. He is a serial philanderer and a corrupt fraud.

  24. Democrat says:

Ruh-roh. Turns out that the bailout bill might not come to the House floor tomorrow because the Republicans don’t have the votes. What’ll they blame it on this time? Tight underwear?

  25. Democrat says:

Hey Jennifer! Blame it on me! Issue a press release about the mean “Democrat” on your wingnut publication’s “Contentions” blog who won’t stop calling the House Republicans a bunch of cowardly, spoiled babies, and keeps referring to McCain as a senile, corrupt, flatulent, fraudulent, lying old goat, and that if only I would stop it the bailout would be approved!

  26. Vail Beach says:

I’m sure “Democrat” has taken a close look at Obama’s life and found it to be a consistent profile in courage, wisdom and accomplishment.

Please share your findings with us, “Democrat.” Because you’ve almost persuaded me, just on the basis of your expose of the horror show that McCain’s life has been that I should vote for Obama. You seem really on the ball, man. I had no clue that this business of him being a hero was such a crock! But I must say, the media has been remiss in telling us the many wonderful things Obama has done — the people he has saved, the principles he fought for, his courage in the face of monstrous odds against him. I bet you can fix that for us.

Isn’t it amazing, the exemplary lives led by Democrats, compared with the sleaziness of the Republicans? I sure hope there aren’t any Republicans in my apartment building!

  27. Greenacres says:

    #23: Correction

Change name to Kennedy, leave the rest and add killed a young woman on bridge to Chappaquidik.

    Finally, some accuracy.

  28. Democrat says:

Greenacres, it speaks volumes that you have to go back 35 years. Yes, you are right about Teddy. I have never voted for a Kennedy, nor would I ever do so, because of Chappaquiddick. I draw the line when the girl dies.

Now let’s look at the Republican side. We have the closeted homosexual governors of Texas and Florida; Sen. David Vitter, the customer of the D.C. madam; Bobby Jindahl, the Louisiana governor who hangs out in exorcisms (popular in New Orleans, I’m sure); Larry Craig, pursuing young undercover policemen in airport men’s rooms; the Rev. Ted Haggard, doing drugs with a gay prostitute in Denver and then denying it; Rep. Mark Foley, the Florida Republican who sent those randy e-mails to the male page.

All of that within the last what, two years. Quite a crew you people have!

  29. el gordo says:

So, Democrat, you care about Reid´s age but not the fact that he and Pelosi have ruined people. You don´t care that Barney Frank was literally in bed with Fannie Mae, but pretend to be shocked about Craig (so when is William Jefferson ging to jail?). What a slimy little partisan hack you are.

Your childish and no doubt cut & pasted description of his flying accidents makes McCain look more like Chuck Yeager (not that you know who that is). You don´t know anything about military aviation. You never heard of the Forrestal fire before? These experiences are one reason why McCain is a serious man and not a weasel like Obama.

That´s why you need to use slander against him and his wife. You have demonstrated who you are. A real capital-D Democrat.
