North Korea — Obama Sends a Stern Letter to the Editor

William F. Buckley Jr. told a great anecdote about an English couple in the South of France outraged because they received terrible service at the local inn. “Je vais ecrire une lettre fache a The Times,” said the enraged Briton — I’m going to write an stern letter to The Times. The purest expression of impotent provincialism. And here we are, with North Korea yet again, and the president is doing exactly the equivalent of threatening to send a stern letter to The Times — expressing outrage, declaring we stand with South Korea … and resuming talks with the North. UPDATE: Oh, and we’re sending a carrier group. That’s always terrifying.

  1. Romney factor says:

Only Mitt Romney benefits by smearing Sarah Palin. The smears about Plain are coming from Romney people who went to work for McCain. Romney is a shameless flip-flopper without spine.

  2. MD says:

Pitch to both independents and conservatives? Look to successful and winning Republicans at the State level for ideas pertinent to the current electorate? You are entirely too practical for punditry, Jennifer Rubin!

Seriously, these are very good ideas. You would think they would be obvious to the wailing righty pundit/blogosphere but I suppose a big political loss takes a bit of time to sink in.

  3. Romney factor says:

Romney has 3 other secret wives. They’re holed up in a compound in remote Utah. Harry Reid is one of his fathers-in-law. Utah is really sick and twisted.

  4. Bob Miller says:

If McCain’s campaign was as dysfunctional as we’ve been told, suspending it for any reason—even to go to Washington—was actually wise!

  5. memomachine says:

    Hmmmm.

“David Brooks is hoping that the Obama team will ”take significant action on the problems facing the country without causing a mass freak-out among voters to the right of Nancy Pelosi.””

Well there’s some “Hope & Change” eh?

  6. Pedant von knowitall says:

Is one of Romney’s secret wives that Elizabeth Smart girl?

    Anonymous leakers want to know!

  7. bd says:

David Brooks is at least to the right of Nancy Pelosi. I’ll give him that much.

  8. MacBurney says:

The period immediately following an election is still dangerously emotional. It is no time for solving the problems of defeat and deciding on the way forward. People are still charged up, and not always at the peak of their powers, shall we say.

Time to catch up on serious reading, relax with a movie or do something completely divorced from politics. Give it all time and wait a bit for the serious thought. The respite will do us all good, and we will com back stronger, and more rational.
