Joshua Goldberg, a brilliant man with a voracious intellect and boundless energy, died last week after a fall at the horrifically young age of 43. In recent years, Josh took on the challenge of trying to open space for conservatives on the Upper West Side of Manhattan by staging a passionate and serious run for City Council as a Republican. During that time and after, he worked ably as one of the editors and managers of lucianne.com, among the earliest and best news aggregators on the web and one that has proved a great source of readers for this blog, with his eponymous mother, one of my dearest friends and one of the great literary-political-social characters of our time. How can one measure the magnitude of her loss, and the loss to her son Jonah (another dear friend and COMMENTARY contributor) and wife Chantal?
