A New Year’s Resolution for Turkey and Hamas?

New Year’s brings word that Ismail Haniyeh, the Hamas prime minister in the Gaza Strip, is on an official trip to Turkey, where he is meeting not only Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan but also the militant charity IHH, the virulently anti-Semitic and pro-terrorist organization which sponsored the ill-fated May 2010 flotilla to supply Hamas from Turkey. Perhaps a new flotilla is on the horizon for the New Year, or another Turkish-led effort to legitimize Hamas.

It is ironic that the Obama administration has bent over backwards to supply Turkey with the latest American technology to bolster Turkey’s fight against terrorism, even at the expense of our own troops’ security, and then Erdoğan turns around to provide aid and comfort to terrorists. At least Obama can take solace in the fact that, with Haniyeh’s visit, Obama will no longer be the only world leader to hug the mercurial Turkish leader.
