Newsweek has a must-read today on the cooperation between the U.S. and Israel on halting Iran’s nuclear program. The detail getting the most attention is the Obama administration’s decision to keep crucial intelligence from Israel regarding the locations of nuclear scientists. But the lack of intelligence-sharing goes both ways – Israel is also staying mum about when it will strike Iran, if it decides to take that course.
The reason for the silence seems to be a breakdown of trust between the Israeli government and the Obama administration. While the U.S. has the capability to attack the program after it goes fully underground, Israel’s window of time for carrying out a successful attack is much shorter. And the Israelis have reason to doubt Obama would take military action if he wins reelection, Newsweek reports:
One former Israeli official tells Newsweek he heard this explanation directly from Defense Minister Ehud Barak. “If Israel will miss its last opportunity [to attack], then we will have to lean only on the United States, and if the United States decides not to attack, then we will face an Iran with a bomb,” says the former Israeli official. This source says that Israel has asked Obama for assurances that if sanctions fail, he will use force against Iran. Obama’s refusal to provide that assurance has helped shape Israel’s posture: a refusal to promise restraint, or even to give the United States advance notice.
Could there be a clearer example of “leading from behind” than this? A nuclear Iran is perhaps the biggest threat the world currently faces, and yet Obama can’t provide reassurances he’ll take military action if necessary – knowing this will lay the brunt of the responsibility on Israel.

So much for the vaunted "security cooperation" "pro-Israel" Democrats constantly harp about.
And yet doubts still persist about the Manchurian Candidate.
A foreign government is trying to coerce the American people into a war. Why didn't we go to war with North Korea when Bush allowed them to go nuclear? Pakistan has more than 60 nuclear weapons. If the state of Israel tries to use war to influence the American election, Israel will lose.
We can go to war for Korea, Vietnam, and Kuwait; and almost go to war for Somalia, Kosovo, and Libya. But God forbid we take any action to protect our ally Israel, eh “Yitzchak”?
Israel and its 300-500 nukes are regarded as the loose cannon by the civilized world, not Iran. Israel can bluster and lie all it wants, it can launch an attack on Iran as it wants, they think they're invincible. We shall see.
You offer no arguments, just conclusions (and entirely predictable ones), so it is impossible for you to do anything other than be loathsome. You certainly are that. Some trolls actually make a provocative point now and then. Others just make hateful statements without worrying about trying to convince. You are in the latter category.
Israeli100, Indeed … then why haven't they used them? Perhaps an ethical and moral decision not to? n nI suggest that Obama hopes that Israel will attack Iran, as hopes Saudi Arabia and possibly other Arab states. Iran wants to dominate the Middle East. n nA successful attack on Israel, with 'Alah on their side,' would see Iran look towards the Great Satan and western infidels as a scourge to be wiped out. Iran has warm ties with South America – Obama would not like nukes pointing towards the US. As for Europe – rockets from Iran could reach many areas. It cannot be overstated enough – Iran is a theocracy, and their 'duty' is clearly laid before them. Such is their Islamic penal code that little girls of the age of 7yrs can be executed, boys not much older. n nDoubtless if Israel did stike Iran, Obama and other western governments giving great sighs of relief, would be privately pleased, However, such is the nature of politics, Obama and others would voice outrage against Israel. But historically, this has been Israel's lot. n n
Reagan officially condemned Israel for bombing he Iraqi nuke plant in the '80s. I think history has shown what he said (and did) unofficially and I think Israel came out ahead all around. n nIt is kind of like yelling at one of your employees in front of a customer to appease the customer, and then giving the kid an extra $20 in his check for putting up with it. A lot of people (not just the US) would be very happy to see the Persian Nukes go away — most of the Arab world comes to mind, Saudi Arabia in particular. Most of them are never going to particularly like Israel, but they are fearing Iran more and they do have their own self interests. n nAnd the Iranians are Persians not Arabs — and the Arabs consider that important. n nIf I were in the Israeli government, I wouldn't much care what people said about me publicly, I would more care about what was said privately. And was Israel really hurt by Reagan's public outrage at the bombing of the Iraqi reactor?
The anti-Israeli contingent likes to ignore the fact that they themselves are part of "the civilized world" lining up perfectly to cause and launch the fulfillment of Ezekiel 38 and 39, and the Book of Obadiah, and even the utter and eternal destruction of Damascus – Isaiah 17:1 nTHE MOURNFUL, inspired prediction (a burden to be lifted up) concerning Damascus [capital of Syria, and Israel's bulwark against Assyria]. Behold, Damascus will cease to be a city and will become a heap of ruins. n nThe Creator of the universe calls Israel and HER JERUSALEM the Apple of His Eye, and pronounced WOE to them who touch her. nFascinating after 3,000 years to watch the ones who scorn our Creator the most be the only instruments who CAN and are JOYFULLY fulfilling His Prophecies regarding them, today. nThe nature of the prophecies is that NONE OF HIS BELIEVERS CAN MAKE THESE THINGS HAPPEN, there is NOTHING in them that His Believers CAN do, or THAT IS TO BE DONE by them, whatsoever. n It is all one hundred percent between those who scorn Him and Him alone. nAnd you are doing it WHEN HE SAID YOU WOULD – within the lifetime of the generation "THAT SEES THESE THINGS BEGIN TO COME TO PASS" – (1948). n nEnjoy your Harvest, Jew Haters.
