ABC’s Jake Tapper reports that at the end of his 90-minute meeting with Russian President Dmitri Medvedev today, President Obama said he would have “more flexibility” to deal with controversial issues such as missile defense, but incoming Russian President Vladimir Putin needs to give him “space.”
The exchange was picked up by microphones as reporters were let into the room for remarks by the two leaders.
Here’s the exchange:
President Obama: On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this, this can be solved but it’s important for him to give me space.
President Medvedev: Yeah, I understand. I understand your message about space. Space for you…
President Obama: This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility.
President Medvedev: I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir.
I imagine scores of voters will find it comforting to know President Obama is sharing his plans for a second term with both Dmitri Medvedev and Vladimir Putin, even if he’s keeping them secret from the American people. And can anyone guess what it means when Obama says he’ll have “more flexibility” after his “last election”? A hint: This is a president who shelved his predecessor’s plan to build a missile defense shield in Poland and the Czech Republic in order to “reset” our relations with Russia – and Obama did this without receiving any concessions from Russia in advance or since. (Russia has, in fact, been a consistent thorn in our side.) This action was also (rightly) seen as a betrayal by our allies in Eastern Europe. We can only imagine what a second Obama term would mean in terms of unwise concessions and reckless agreements with Russia, Iran, North Korea and countless other nations.
Like Jimmy Carter before him, we have a president today who, by instinct and disposition, is hard on our allies and weak toward our adversaries. It is not the kind of thing you hope to find in a commander-in-chief.
The unmasking of Barack Obama continues — comment by comment, law by law, act by act.

This is exactly why Israel needs to bomb Iran before the end of this summer. Before the elections Obama's hands will be tied. After the elections, if, G-d forbid, Obama should win it will be Israel's hands which are tied.
> This is a president who shelved his predecessor’s plan to build a missile defense shield n> in Poland and the Czech Republic in order to “reset” our relations with Russia n nDon't forget a clear majority of Czech and Polish voters actually *OPPOSED* the ballistic missile defense deal! E.g. Polish opinion polls at the time suggested almost twice as many Poles (56%-30%) agreed with Obama’s decision to cancel missile defense. n nThis deal was popular with a handful of neocon politicians. Pretty much everybody else in Eastern & Western Europe was against. n nMARCU$
…. This deal was popular with a the politicians with whom it was skillfully negotiated. Pretty much everybody else in Eastern & Western Europe was against …. n nWho cares what "pretty much everyone else" felt? Mr Bush always efficaciously took care of America's interests. n n"Democrats" — and Zero has ever proven the rule and never the exception — are for the most part and by any other name, traitors — and every bit as often as not align themselves with America's enemies.
President Obama should be subject to impeachment for collusion with foreign governments to the detriment and exclusion of all americans, government and citizenry.
Look on the bright side. At least he thinks it will be his “last election” so he’s not going to pull a Hugo Chavez or a Vladamir Putin.
He said "last election." He didn't say anything about coronation or enthronement.
The unmasking continues as you say, but not, unfortunately, fast enough to keep pace with the cover-ups, dissembling and outright lying by the Leftist Media.
The Manchurian Candidate theory looking more solid as time goes on.
When you're Kevin Costner the one thing you want from the man on the other side of the glass is breathing room and a way out.
Okay, does anyone at this point doubt Obuckethead's goals and motivations? If this transparent walk through totalitarian, traitorous-sedition hasn't got your attention, when will it? n nBaraka Omugabe is [the] consummate enemy of the Nation and to compound the original vote for him, a vote for reelection is NUTS!!! n nDemand Occu-radical Obonehead and Holder resign immediately!!!
During the war, FDR confided to Stalin that his public position on the future of Poland was not unconnected with his need not to alienate the Polish-American vote. Perhaps we and the Poles can console ourselves with the dictum that history repeats itself, the first time as tragedy and the second time as farce.
I'm troubled by the apparent assurance that Obama has about being re-elected; as if he knows something few people do. And, given his cloudy past and suspect associations, I don't really like the "tone" of that conversation. I would feel much better if he'd said something like, "I'm in the battle of my life here with this election – he's gotta give me some space. If I'm here after January, then we can work something out." n nThat's the way I parse this, anyway. And I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one to see it this way; Barack Obama has given people cause to doubt his EVERY word and EVERY move – given that kind of perspective and atmosphere he's grown around him, it wouldn't shock me if he has a "Fall Surprise" ready to go.
"Lame Duck" has now morphed into "Dictator"
Lame Dick
I thought Barack Obama was the "smartest"guy in the room, but this is the second time he has embarrassed himself by inadvertently speaking his true feelings in the presence of an open microphone. I can still remember how Mr. Obama disparaged the Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu in what Obama thought was a private conversation with French President Sarkozy who had just bitterly criticized the Israeli leader in front of a "hot" mike as a liar. I would hope now that Mr. Obama has just promised the Russians that he would disarm the United States for them and has made his hostility to Israel clearly evident, that even Obama's most ardent Jewish supporters will seriously consider casting their votes for Romney in November.
Again, Obama “kicking the can down the road” by putting off controversial decisions until after he is re-elected. n nThe Keystone pipeline? Sorry, I need more time to think about it. Check with me in late November. Action against Iran’s nuclear weapons program? Sorry, I’m still not sure they really want to make warheads. I’ll keep my eye on it. Maybe by December the picture will be clearer. nBuilding a missile defense shield so no other country (or insane militant America-hating theocracy) can attack us? Let’s talk about that next year. n nHere is the electoral calculus: Do Moderates and Independents want us to promise not to defend ourselves against a missile attack? Or do they want the president to defend the nation? n nDo Moderates and Independents really want to protect us from Canadian oil? n nDo Moderates and Independents want us to abandon our most loyal ally, and to tell Israel to learn to live with a nuclear-armed nutcase neighbor whose official slogan is “Death to Israel, Death to the USA.” n nYou know the answers. So does Obama. (more at mistermoleman.com)
“The unmasking of Barack Obama”
That was done by Obama himself – well before the 2008 election. It’s a pity so few were paying attention.
Why cannot people understand that America cannot go to war at the drop of a hat. Forget the policies that were followed in the past where Americans firmly believed that no country was too far away and no cost so great that they couldn't go in the kick the hell of those little guys with straw hats and sandals. nDo the American people really want to go to war with Iran, North Korea and possibly Syria without involving China? In order to contain these countries and to maintain peace, the Americans need the Russians on their side. This doesn't mean that President Obama will bow down to Russia or anybody else. nRemember Stalingrad! And just imagine what would have happened if the Nazis had won and Russia was not an ally! n
Obama's remarks make sense if anyone's being paying attention the past 4 years. He thinks if we will only be nice to everyone else, and apologize for past sins, they will be nice to us. They're not really evil and mean us no harm, therefore we should lay down our arms and show them how peaceful we are. Once they see this, they will reciprocate and we can all live in harmony. This is the typical utopian, rose-colored-glasses view of the world most liberals live in, and it's extremely dangerous, especially when he is purposely giving away our missle defense secrets. This is treasonous and it's Neville Chamberlain all over again. What we need is a president with the "peace through strength" philosophy, not peace through appeasement. We miss you Ronald Reagan. n
That de-nuclearizing dog won't hunt. When faced with a choice between national suicide and the unpleasantness of having displeased the Manchurian President–Israel's choice will not be agonized. Then again, at least Obama seems, whatever the ultimate provenance of his loyalties, predispositions, and ideological romanticisms to hail from planet earth. Not necessarily the "inevitable" Republican contender from Planet Romney. Plus, if Germany's behavior is a template, Israel is being desperately bribed not to bomb Iran now with reinforcements to their nuclear deterrence, including advanced subs.
