Barack Obama’s increasingly desperate struggle to win re-election is causing some of his worst traits to be put on display, including petulance and self-pity. The latest example occurred during a fundraiser in Baltimore, when the president said, “Because folks are still hurting right now, the other side feels that it’s enough for them to just sit back and say, ‘Things aren’t as good as they should be, and it’s Obama’s fault.’”
This is rich. No president in human history has quite equaled Obama when it comes to blaming others for his problems. And during the 2008 campaign, everything wrong with America could be laid squarely at the feet of President Bush. But now Obama, having presided over what at this stage must qualify as among the most inept presidencies in American history, is complaining because he’s being held accountable.
What is fairly astonishing in all this is the utter lack of self-awareness by the president. A jolting collision is occurring between his own self-conception (Obama views himself as a world-historical figure and Great Man) and the multiple and multiplying failures of his presidency. Obama appears incapable of processing the truth or coming to grips with reality. And so he’s spinning tales day after day, including his fantastic (and thoroughly discredited) claim that “Since I’ve been president, federal spending has risen at the lowest pace in nearly 60 years.”
Obama has now entered a world all his own. It’s a world where up is down, hot is cold, north is south, and Barack Obama is fiscally responsible and blameless.
In its own way, it’s a fascinating psychodrama that’s unfolding. Given that there are still 146 days until the election, it’s hard to imagine where the president will eventually end up.

In some weird way, we (in a collective sense) are responsible for Mr. Obama's fantasy world. How so? n nMr. Obama has had a privileged life in terms of attending Columbia, then Harvard, and who can say just how well he did or did not do. Still, to be at those schools gives the student an inflated view of himself. He was a community organizer who did not do much for the community, but he had lots of accolades for little accomplishment. He went on to politics where victories came easily. n nHis campaign for the presidency was all about himself, and the press gave him a free pass and did little to challenge him. He became president without having to do any real work to get there. (Yes, the campaign is work, but Mr. Obama never held a full-time job in any real sense, nor did he have any executive experience. Bill Clinton said it best when he called Mr. Obama's life a "fairy tale.") n nOnce in office, the press fawned over him and even other countries (their leadership anyway) did the same. And what is more, the Nobel Committee awarded him the peace prize for doing what? Nothing, save for lofty speeches that meant little and had less than zero impact on the world. With all of this, is it any wonder Mr. Obama is living in his own world. n nThe good news is that the nation is finally awakening and seeing what we've done. One can only hope that the voters now (and through the election) will continue to see Mr. Obama for what he is and will have the courage to elect a new administration. n nEven fairy tales end.
You are absolutely correct. He is the ultimate example of the post WWII American milieu of not judging too harshly, not grading too harshly, not expecting results from kids (up to and including university student "kids") lest their precious self-esteem get damaged. Obama combines that with another trait of the spoiled generation having not grown up mentally and intellectually. nA true poster boy for liberal America. (hint: making him a president was a mistake even for liberals; all their faults on display in one package)
Narcisists usually do live in their own world.
Although it was clear from day one that Obama is mildly insane, for those who cared to actually look, it is abundantly clear that most Obambi are NOT waking up. His approval rating is still in the upper 40%. And that after being one of the worse leaders of any free people in history. n nFrankly, I wonder if I am not the one living in a dream world. This can't be happening in the best country in history.
It just goes to show. The average person is a moron.
I think you're right. We projected an ideal vision of our country on Obama, who seemed to embody that vision. Single mother, deadbeat dad, rags to riches, first black president etc. What a great country that can produce and elevate such a talented man from such humble origins. He is Great, We are Great, our future will be Great. 3 1/2 years on and no such luck. Obama has turned out to be an arrogant, ignorant incompetent willing to do and say anything to maintain the power, status and reputation he never deserved.
A narcissist is incapable of self awareness, because he or she has no authentic self. This disorder has its roots in early life deprivation due to parental abondonment. A true self develops in the context of a mother/father/child triad, which initially nourishes a core self and then supports its separation from the mother and individuation as a unique human being. Infants and children who want for this environment are forced to defensively fantasize the existence of a grandiose self, which is dependent upon external support for lack of an internal structure. Sucn people are drawn to public lives in order to obtain constant approval. Without it, they tend to become disoriented and depressed.
I have held the firm belief that prezbo has been "handled" from the beginning and would sooner or later "implode" …. I wait for that day ….
Yep, he's Post Modern Prez and he actually believes his own B.S. — at least at the moment that it leaves his mouth. Twenty minutes later he might need to tweak it a bit, and again 20 minutes after that. But post modernists can handle that kind of "change" — it's their specialty. n nStill, I am beginning to think he's gone so far beyond the usual post modern drivel that even the minions are having a hard time keeping up.
We all thought Mr Romney's biggest asset was that he wasn't the president, and he would run a campaign of contrast with the incumbent. But the psychology of the race has changed. n nMr Romney's biggest asset is that he is Mr Romney, and the incumbent's biggest debit is that he is no Mitt Romney. A subtle change, but one which devastating for the incumbent. The president now must contrast himself to Mr Romney.
Yes, the best proof of that is that very often now you see liberal commentariat in a "this is not lost yet, Romney is beatable" mode. nBut, of course, it is the incumbent people should assess as to whether he is "beatable" or not by the challenger, not vice versa. nIf for the rest of the campaign Romney is seen as the near inevitable winner, and the only question is whether the sitting president can compete with him, Obama has already lost.
That's interesting. It does seem as though Romney is the adult in the room, calm, intelligent, and Obama is the stuttering teenager who keeps blaming the broken vase on his brother. "He did it!" n nWell the fact is that his brother did break a vase. But then Obama broke another 10 vases and has plans to break more. But he tries to convince us that Bush broke them all. n nAs Romney said "It's still about the economy and we're not stupid."
One gets the feeling that he is in charge of his operation, not simply being "handled" by a Plouffe or an Axelrod. I have to say Mitt was not on my short list but he impressed me in the debates and has continued with well-timed jabs, letting Team Obama swing wildly away into exhaustion. He reminds me of a disciplined chess player who keeps constant pressure on his opponent, waiting patiently for an opening and then capitalizing on it. Obama looks more like George Foreman in the Rumble, stumbling around the ring after punching himself to exhaustion. By the time his poor legs gave out, all Ali had to do was stand by and watch him collapse onto the mat.
Perhaps Governor Romney’s greatest asset is that he has had to earn the nomination in spite of many social, financial and political advantages. He ran against Senator McCain then ran again in 2012 taking flack left, right, center and the MSM. It has made him a better candidate able to articulate his policies and positions.
When will the media and those who still think of BHO as a "rock star" realize he jumped the shark a long time ago? I mean really, the way they fawned over him is and has been entirely embarrassing to watch. But thanks to the media, our country is in dire straights. BHO was always an empty suit, pathetically petulant like a child, totally arrogant and narcissist. But certainly capable of putting us in such severe, unsustainable debt, like the teenager with a credit card. November can't come soon enough.
Don't forget he had a lot of Democrat Party member help putting us in all this debt. Voting for a Democrat for ANYTHING from now on is a wish for our republic's death.
The emperor has no clothes!
“Obama appears incapable of processing the truth or coming to grips with reality.” n nJust so. This is not only scary but also gestures at an explanation for “the multiple and multiplying failures of his presidency.” For the good and safety of the nation Obama must be turned out in November. It is quite evident that Obama does not have what it takes to be President and never did. Those who advocate for him should be embarrassed. n
The election is a long way off and while Obama is clearly losing ground Romney has yet to make the case for why we should trust him. America took a chance on Obama and look how that turned out. We still have the option to keep Obama and make both House and Senate Republican.
Keeping Obama and having a Republican Congress sounds like a dismal recipe for more of the same for another 4 years. n n4 years is enough time to show us if someone has what it takes to propose ideas and lead to the solution of problems. Many Presidents in the past have succeeded in solving tough problems in our country with the Congress (or part of the Congress) held by "the other party". n nObama has failed miserably in this. n nOne example is his inability to get an agreement with the Republicans last year on the debt ceiling issue. We'll never know if the US would have avoided a credit rating reduction even if they had reached an agreement, but not being able to reach one certainly didn't inspire any confidence and absolutely contributed to Std & Poor's decision – they said so, publicly. n nIt's time to give the other guy a shot.
When your leader starts whining in the 3rd person, well, he's not really a leader is he?
Just like Napoleon entered 'a world all his own' on St Helena- exile is 'where he might end up'… if he doesn't take off before the investigations begin in earnest! n n
When one deceives themselves the deception is complete. In trying to fool themselves they fool no one but themselves. And they end up looking foolish. Obama's pro-abortion zeal causes me to dislike him greatly. But watching him self-destruct on the world's stage almost makes me feel sorry for him.
Any man who believes he is “We are the one the world has been waiting for” promises “to stop the rise of the Oceans and begin the cooling of the Earth” is to say the least an individual of staggering arrogance or more likely an individual with serious mental problems. n nWhy anyone continues to support this incompetent, lying, petulant, whining, blaming, sulking, narcissist is hard to understand! n nBut then look how many adored Hitler and screaming “Hail Hitler, Hail Hitler" Here the brainless cult members Scream “Yes We Can, Yes We can” during his Coronation now they Scream “Pass the jobs bill”, Pass the jobs bill” . n nYears go by but left wing socialist promising to take from them that will work and give to them that refuse to work, spewing lies and manipulating the idiots that support them remain the same the world over!
With Obama at first I was full of hope and thought finally maybe we would have a real President again. n n But after his first few hype & rant speeches I realized the man was the world,s greatest liar or that he had a real mental problem and was disconnected from reality! n nWhile all politicians make promises they know they cannot keep Obama was so far from reality it was like he was living in a altered reality with his brainless cult followers screaming “Yes We Can, Yes We Can” it was more like a religious cult then a serious and intelligent plan addressing problems and providing a feasible plan for improvements. n nBut they say we get the leaders we deserve. We have a press that refused to question and inform but lies and slants reporting to confirm to their views and a population so poorly educated and so easy beguiled by a radical Socialist spewing lies that makes it frightening similar to watching old film clips of the rise of Hitler and his adoring public just substitute “Yes We Can” for Hail Hitler! ! n nNow I am even more worried and seeing Obama and the Democrats encouraging their Brown Shirts to engage in hate speech from Unions thugs and Radical Black politicians! n
I just wish more of us had recognized this reality before the 2008 election. I saw through Obama from very early in his campaign, and it was exasperating to see so many seemingly levelheaded Americans fall for his gauzy, empty rhetoric. Bring on November.
Standard procedure for President Obama: when he fails, he denies the vary state of reality until the space time continuum folds it to match his delusions. That happens to be more likely than him admitting he made a mistake.
It's scary to have a president who's delusional.
With Obama at first I was full of hope and thought finally maybe we would have a real President again.
Obama in his own, can I say black hole, world has plenty of company.. The"Enlightened": media pundits print and film, so-called comedians shills, Hollywood and TV celebrities and troupes/troops in Congress and Judiciary and of course the intelligentsia.. The "gravity" of his persona and his tunes holding them fast in that black hole.. Those who have danced to his tunes from his first appearance on the national stage.. Plus the other children seduced by the songs of this Pied Piper. n nNo real light emanates from Obama's world, only sound and fury …. It is bizarre none of Obama's companions of vaunted intelligence, education and knowledge knew that the Pied Piper after seducitng his followers with his tunes then led them to their deaths.
"No real light emanates from Obama's world, only sound and fury." Now, you have impressed me with your assessment! Because only a blind man follows sounds without light; where walking is erratic, nothing makes sense and it is hard to point the exact location of the sound source. That is why is no intelligent person can understand Obama's followers you'd need to be physically and emotionally blind to cloud reasoning, I am only physically disabled.
I think we're all over-thinking this. It may just be the "choom" talking.
I am still amazed at the inability of so many to see what is so glaringly obvious. Obama is off his rocker and always was. n n
there are 30+ bills passed by the House of Representatives addressing our jobs and economy, in various degrees. Harry Reid [with Obama's concurrence] refuses to let any of them be taken up, or a substitute be proposed. It is impossible to legislate on our major problems: debt, jobs, and deficit, when one branch of Congress refuses to act. This year, our entire government revenues, from all taxes and fees, covers only Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid–the other $1.3 trillion we are borrowing. When interest rates return to normal, there will be no money left for anything. When are we going to address this problem? Where is the leadership from the President?
of course you must know that he starts coutning 14 months [really more, since more TARP got counted under Bush than should have] after he took office and spent way over a billion on "stimulus" and other stupidity. He has added $5.1 trillion to the debt in just over 3 years; as I count it, Bush added about $4.2 trillion in eight years. This is the fast growth in spending in our history, excluding World War II. Nobody is delusional except Obama and his devotees in the mainstream press and their acolytes.
He starts counting in October '09, the beginning of fiscal year 2010, which is the first budget passed under Obama, and there is an asterisk next to the Bush figures that clearly show if you read carefully enough that the stimulus money from '09 is "reassigned" to Obama as part of this calculation. So the WSJ guy is actually taking pains to be accurate about it. n nYour debt figures might or might not be accurate — if you're starting with FY '09, again, that's a budget passed by Congress and signed by Bush that the news president can't just sort of ignore. But there is a difference between running up the fastest debt in history and being the biggest spender, since there are two sides to the budget equation. The other being tax receipts, which have been lowered by the Bush-Obama tax cuts and lowered further by the recession and slow recovery. So I won't call you delusional, but you're making an inaccurate leap in logic from what Obama has added to the debt, to him being the biggest spender. And are you really counting the Wall Street Journal as the "mainstream press" that's supposedly lined up behind Obama? I doubt it seriously.
'But he has nothing on!' said a little child at last. n n'Just listen to the innocent child!' said the father, and each one whispered to his neighbour what the child had said. n n'But he has nothing on!' the whole of the people called out at last. n nThis struck the Emperor, for it seemed to him as if they were right; but he thought to himself, 'I must go on with the procession now. And the chamberlains walked along still more uprightly, holding up the train which was not there at all. n nStory of the Emperor's New Clothes, Hans Christian Andersen n
Here is an historic Obama, or whoever he is, achievement I would lustily applaud: Barack Hussein Obama (or whoever he is) today becomes the first former United States President in history to be incarcerated for crimes committed while serving. Yet he is even more historic than that. He is the first President that wouldn't come close to passing a Top Secret security clearance background check.
"In its own way, it’s a fascinating psychodrama that’s unfolding. Given that there are still 146 days until the election, it’s hard to imagine where the president will eventually end up." n nI'm expecting the Secret Service will have to drag his tush out of the People's White House. on January 19th 2013. n nAs he is being removed, he will be tweeting to all the universe (yes, in his mind it will be the entire universe, not just twitter-ville) about how this was all Bush's fault.
You guys have it all wrong, its not his fault, never was… After all how could the "One" be blamed? n nWhat irks me the most is no matter what happens he is on easy street the rest of his life. The rest of us? Not so much
