Something seems to have clicked for Mitt Romney in the past few days. There were a few minutes when he was flailing on the tax return issue, but President Obama’s “you didn’t build that” comment appears to have reinvigorated Romney. His new web video out this morning which profiles a small business owner in New Hampshire is a prime example:
The video is great on its own, but with some tweaks and shortening it could be an absolutely brutal TV ad. Obama’s comments sound even more condescending and offensive when juxtaposed against the daily struggles of a small business owner. His sarcastic line about entrepreneurs thinking their success came from being “just so smart” comes off as particularly snide. Imagine the impact if the Romney campaign decided to run one of these ads in every swing state, profiling small business owners from each one.

To make it really stick, to show that Obama's words weren't taken out of context, I would show adds with Obama also making claims that it was good to spread the money around, or that the private sector is doing just fine. n nThere is enough evidence to show what this president really believes.
In the Beginning there was Government. And Government bestowed upon the People the right to be successful. And the Government helped the People be successful. And the People bowed down to Government and gave back to Government all that their success had wrought. n nBut, in its infinite wisdom, Government failed to bless a large number of the People with the will to succeed. Most of these People who could not succeed were too lazy to succeed. Most of the lazy People were lazy because they treated their inability to cope with life’s realities with mood enhancing and mind altering drugs. And they became dependent on Government. n nSo, Government took from the resources of the independent People and gave more to the dependent People. The independent People became less successful with a diminishing pool of Capital from Government. Before long, there were more takers than there were makers. And… n nIn the End, there was less to go around. n nGovernment giveth, Government taketh away.
It is a sad testament to both our education system and the MSM that so few of our US citizens realize the role of government in dynamic, successful societies. n nGovernment is to economic growth as a gardner is to a garden. It should provide the "environment" for healthy economic growth, and then get out of the way and let the plants in the garden do their thing. n nThe environment would include contract law enforcement, civil laws to keep the peace and prevent rampant lawlessness, provide for the common defense, and build a few roads. Sort of like the constitutional limitations we are supposed to be obeying. n nGovernment has no resources it does not first take from it's productive citizens. n nRequirements for a growing economy do not consist of unknown doctrines or rocket science, we simply refuse to learn from history or teach that history to our children. n nCommentary and other "new" media forums will hopefully spread this information far and wide.
Hey, that's not a bad tag line for the Romney ads: Time to Rebuild. n nThe implication is that Obama has been a one-man, (un)natural disaster and 2013 is going to be the beginning of a massive clean-up and rebuilding effort. I like that imagery and it's something I think most Americans can relate to and get behind.
