Anderson Cooper Demolishes DWS Abortion Claim

This hasn’t been the best month for Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Last week, Wolf Blitzer called her out for misleading comments on Paul Ryan’s Medicare plan, and last night Anderson Cooper tore apart her allegations about Mitt Romney’s abortion position (via Allahpundit):

As usual, Wasserman Schultz refused to back down, but since she’s defending a completely indefensible and obviously false claim there’s only so much she can say. When Cooper reads her the Los Angeles Times article that she completely took out of context in a fundraising email, it’s pretty much game over.

Does this mean the Democratic National Committee will stop sending out breathless, over-the-top fundraising emails about how the Romney campaign wants to send women back to the dark ages? Somehow, I doubt it.

  1. The DNC and the illiberals will never stop wanting to believe there is a war on women originating from conservative right — they need to believe, they need it to be true. Pathetic.

To refer to the Democ-rat Party from the lowest county committee member to the President of the United States "The Scum of the Earth" only serves to raise its stature!

  2. goon48 says:

I think it's funny that the DNC's plan to have Debbie Wasserman-Schultz play the role of attack dog is starting to bite them in the Rear END. I find her to be a very polarizing figure and is just not a very nice person.

More DWS please. n n/Romney Campaign Team

    • dcdoc1 says:

If we agreed to give you more DWS, would you agree to give us more TA (Todd Akins) and the other theocrats in your camp? If you will, then you have a deal, and we will see which side suffers greater harm from their respective negatives. (Please stop trying to force Akins out of the MO race against our girl Claire McCaskill. We love Akins and think the citizens of MO should decide who they want representing them in the Senate. And if it can be arranged, we'd love to see more of Christine O'Donnell, Sharron Angle, and others of their ilke running against our weak and vulnerable candidates for office at all levels.) n n/Obama Campaign Team

      • Of course you love Akin, Democrats spent 2 million dollars crossing over to help him win the primary so Macaskill could run against him. So, I consider him to be an artificially created problem for Republicans. And, heh, stupidity is hardly a Republican monopoly. I give you Joe Biden, among others. We will enjoy watching the Dem convention have strident women on talking nonstop about abortion and gay marriage, cause, you know, those are the prime issues that are important to the American people. Add in some attacks on both conventions by the Occupy crowd, and we will be happy campers.

      • MainesMichael says:

Well give to Akins, but only if you promise to take him, coat his shoes in cement, and drop in the deepest cave river you can find.

When it comes to Palestinian leaders, we are often critical when they say one thing but their actions indicate the opposite position. DWS's point was that Romney says he supports abortion rights when the mother was raped, but the platform calls for a consitiutional amendment that would ban abortions even in the case of rape. Does Mitt "own" the platform or not? DWS, in the Anderson Cooper piece, says that he does (and twists the LA times article to do that as well), while Anderson Cooper insists that the language in the platform cannot be attributed to him. n nI support Romney but I actually think DWS got the better of Anderson Cooper in this conversation. n

  5. Scrumptlous says:

S was effectively called out in both segments. Plus, she comes across as impeturbably obnoxious, reminding me of Foghorn Leghorn, all repettive bluster, no substance. She thinks loud repeitition, which evades the point being put to her, somehow exonerates her confabulations. Propriety and a desire not to offend prevent me from using the langauge that comes to mind in witnessing these two examples of her dishonest bludgeoning of intellectual honesty. My God! The mystery to me is how she ever achieved any modicum of success in electoral politics, so repellent is she.

  6. James Sisco says:

Romney's campaign staff offered language that would haved changed the RNC platform to allow abortion in cases of rape, incest or for medical reasons, that language was voted down by the RNC. DWS refused to acknowledge that article from the LA Times that pointed this out(the changed language). The fundaising e-mail the DNC sends out misquotes or denies the facts, clearly in order to gain votes and/or money. Basically, DWS is like Obama, in that fabrications and outright lying are the order of the day, always have been, always will be.

  7. I predict that the way she does these interviews, that is, she has one talking point and she repeats it in full in answer to every question whether it is pertinent or not, is how Joe Biden will handle the debate against Paul Ryan. What else can he do?

Re: "Does this mean the Democratic National Committee will stop sending out breathless, over-the-top fundraising emails about how the Romney campaign wants to send women back to the dark ages? " n nNo, but it may mean that it isn't a Jewish woman sending them out! Debbie W-S is an atrocious human being. We need her parading before the public like we need a hole in our head! I refer us all to the growing problem of our own Evil Sons and Daughters, including Jews who do terrible damage to Israel but also Jews like Debbie W-S, who disgraces us publicly. She has a right to her opinions, but not to express them in the nasty, vicious, snarling way she does. And then there was Alan Grayson, and far too many other Jewish public figures today, who think they can "say whatever they want, whenever they want to say it, and if it hurts or embarrasses someone, too bad!" n nWho has taught these twisted, destructive men and women to behave this way? Answer: we have. n nNow, either we will clean up the mess we've made since the 1960s, or I fear it will be cleaned up for us. And that, trust me, is something we do not want to happen again. We must set about shutting down our Evil Sons and Daughters, by whatever means necessary.

  9. disenchanter says:

Obnoxiousness is not the sole domain of native New York Jews, but seems that this caustic approach to dialogue is a common thread among New Yorkers in general. In the integrity department, the fact that DWS spews half truths and lies does not make her unusual for a politician of either major party. The main thing is that the liberal press needs to be a watchdog for the TRUTH, just as Fox needs to be on the right. That we elect demogogues is hardly news. Speak on DWS.

  10. RAPHAELENNIS says:

DWS did not sound as if even she believed her own story. I listened to the interview on my wife's cell phone today when we were driving. When this story broke, my wife was very excited that this would be an issue that troubled her. After hearing the interview she is now convinced that the DNC is just blowing smoke. I value my wife's take on such issues. She is more pro-choice than I but not inclined to vote for Obama. This abortion issue troubled her until today.

  11. davlevine says:

By allowing Wasserperson-Schmutz anywhere near a television studio the Democ-rats prove themselves to be The Stupid Party!

  12. musingmaryann says:

Wasserman and the DNC are failing at their attempt to make this campaign about one issue – abortion. Why? Because their candidate has a dismal record when it comes to the economy, gas prices, unemployment, etc. n nSo, to rally the female vote they want to equate Feminism with abortion. If you believe in equality for women then you must support abortion. They want to make this election a one issue election but there is too much of a wake for Obama this time. n nThe RNC's position on abortion hasn't changed in decades and Wasserman, using Obama's tactic of saying anything, got caught with her hand in the cookie jar and refused to admit it. n nDems need to face the facts that Obama didn't deliver. He has made this nation worse, not better and has infiltrated the highest office in the land with a socialist agenda that is stripping away our freedoms. Either candidate's position on abortion is the least concern for our nation. n
