Iran: Israel Is Our Target

The capacity of national security experts for self-delusion in the name of supposed sophistication has always been amazing. Some diplomats and self-professed experts suggest that Hamas is now moderate, regardless of what Khaled Meshaal says. Likewise, diplomats embraced Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as deep-thinker, not a coarse, anti-American and anti-Semitic zealot, as his early rants indicate.

Apologists like Juan Cole argue that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad doesn’t truly incite genocide, because the threat to wipe Israel off the map was simply a mistranslation. No matter that’s how the Iranian government translated it, and the speech Cole disputes is only one among several dozens. Well, hopefully this will put a stop to the self-delusion regarding Iran’s intentions:

Commander Names Israel as Iran’s Long-Range Target

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian commander said the distance between Iran and Israel is the maximum range that Tehran wants for its missiles, saying that Iran does not need missiles with a longer range.

“We don’t need missiles with over 2,000 km but we have the technology to build them,” Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh told reporters today.

“Israel is our longest-range target,” the commander underscored.

Lest anyway believe Hajizadeh’s comments are just defensive in nature, remember the interview with the wife of the former head of Iran’s missile corps. After his death, she commented that he had always wanted his epitaph to read, “This is the grave of someone who wanted to destroy Israel.”

seems to me there is additional self delusion you demonstrate

that the world is totally aware of Iran’s (Hamas, Hezbualla, etc..) intentions

    and the world is complicit

    the world agrees

It is amazing that our liberal friends – some of them at least – can find all kinds of ugly secret racist messages in "dog whistles" and "code words" by conservatives but when anti-Israeli or anti-American types openly call for destruction of those countries they say that's not really what they mean. n nRhetorical somersauts needed to find racism here, rhetorical somersauts needed to find benign statements there. n nNeat trick.

Few would deny that Israel and Iran are enemies, which is what this quote confirms. The salient question is whether nuclear deterrence would prevail. This quote is hardly dispositive of that question, however. Let's not forget that the U.S. and the Soviet Union also wished for the other's destruction. But they never acted on that sincere desire.

This isn't just an Iran-Israel or US-Iran dispute. Many of the nations in the region are terrified about a Shi'a bomb. And plan on acquiring their own if Tehran succeeds. n nIran wishes to dominate the Gulf. That is, drive the US out of the region and intimidate the smaller states. Should the US extend its nuclear umbrella to those Gulf states in response? If not then what is to prevent their capitulation to Tehran? n nA nuclear arms race in the Middle East, a nuclear Tehran rattling its atomic sword, a Shia'-Sunni war…this can't all be addressed simply by promising to wipe out Iran if they strike us.

Well to be fair they don't give a damn how many Arabs, Kurds, Turks, Persians, Azeris slaughter one other either. They're not simply far left, they're genocidal anarchists generally.

    • mhloutbeltway says:

Yes, but most important to HRW and their ilk is that no Jews kill anyone even in self-defence, because any Jewish involvement makes it a war crime. And they say they aren't anti-Semites. At least the Nazis were honest and proudly war their Jew-hatred as a badge of honor.

  6. BDZ says:

HRW is supported heavily by Reform Synagouges and their membership. Every Reform Jew who supports Israel must demand an end to this odious policy of HRW or defund that organization.

    • Larry says:

BDS should be turned on its head as far as Reform Synagogues and HRW is concerned. That fact that any Jew, anywhere, has anything to do with Soros or one of his organisation is farcical. n nHe is an unrepentant Final Solution collaborator.

The charter of Hamas is almost word for word the philosophy of Sheik Abdullah Azzam. He was no for "Jihad and the rifle alone. No negotiations, no compromises, no conferences.

Anything can be used to deceive the Jews! I wonder what is Cole translation!

  10. Shira Israel-Levin says:

The world doesn’t care about Israel. They are just worried about the threat poses to them. It is mind bozzling how many liberal anti-Zionist Jews like Soros
there are. Deep down inside they must be harbouring guilt
    for being Jews.
