Ted Kennedy Jr., son of the late senator, appears to be floating his name for a potential senatorial bid to replace John Kerry. A “friend and adviser” to the Kennedy scion emailed the following to Mike Allen this morning:
“It’s no secret that Ted is interested in entering politics, after a long and successful career as a disability rights advocate and businessman. Numerous people in Massachusetts have reached out to him to ask him to consider running for office there, and, if Senator Kerry is nominated to a Cabinet post, it’s fair to say that he will be giving this very serious consideration.”
The biggest obstacle for EMK Jr. is that he lives in Connecticut and would probably have to fix that before running for Senate across the border. But he could be an unbeatable candidate in a state where the Kennedy name and bloodline is one of the most powerful assets a politician can have.
Of course, that nepotism could always backfire. Back in 2010, Scott Brown was able to beat Martha Coakley by portraying her as so out-of-touch and arrogant that she expected the seat to be handed to her. Considering EMK Jr.’s Connecticut residency and family background, Brown’s campaign attacks would write themselves.
Whether Democrats will repeat the mistakes of 2010 is another question. One Massachusetts Democratic Party source said they learned their lesson from 2010, and realize their candidate has to actually compete for the seat rather than taking it as a given.
“Dems learned their lesson in ’10. Not worried about Scott Brown anymore” said the source. “In ’10 we thought it would be a breeze. We know the work that has to be put in now.”

Is he as good a swimmer as dad? n nWould he leave a woman clawing at the roof of a submerged car for minutes before she drowned while he escaped and plotted to save his political career? n nWhy should the son of such a man have any political advantage? n n
Why did THE MAN have the political advantage? n nWhy was he repeatedly reelected and lionized until his death? n nSimilarly, the almost impeached, the disbarred, serial adulterer, accused rapist and perjurer, Bill Clinton is also a money making celebrity and political superstar. n n
I still can't get over the "waitress sandwich" matter involving Senators Ted Kennedy and Chris Dodds. Kennedy takes a 110-120 lb waitress and tosses her onto a reclining Dodds and then jumps on top of both, pinning the terrified 20-something young lady between the two of them. n nIn the real world, it wouldn't take much to get an arrest and likely conviction for attempted rape out of that. But for Kennedy, it was just another boozy afternoon. All is forgiven if you are of the correct political party and mantra.
Mary Jo died of suffocation, not drowning. I remember hearing someone speaking about this, the car was a big Oldsmobile Delta 88 and it created an air pocket when it flipped over and she exhausted all the oxygen in it and then died from that, not drowning. Had Teddy K simply thrown a rock through the lit bedroom window of the house he walked by, simply thrown a rock through the window and ran away, there is a good chance the folks inside would have seen the car, or the responding police officer had they called one. n nOne other thing — Mary Joe's blouse but not skirt had grass stains on the back of it. Now how would a woman get grass stains on the back of her blouse but not her skirt?
How can the very wealthy Ted Kennedy, Jr be a viable candidate? Aren't the rich evil and disgusting.I am confused. Mitt Romney earned most of his wealth. Kennedy is inheriting his money. Can somebody explain this to me? My intelligence level leaves much to be deserved.
And you know what the Kennedy fortune was based on don't you? n nOld man Joe knew that Prohibition was going to end, so he bought up all the US Importation/Distribution rights to Scotch whiskey which weren't worth anything because they couldn't sell any here legally, and when Prohibition ended, he made a fortune. I think the Kennedys still make some money on each bottle of Scotch.
Did you know that Charlie Wrangle's seat has been held by exactly TWO people since World War Two? Adam Clayton Powell, disgraced and corrupted, and his protege Charlie Wrangle, also disgraced and corrupted. Seems like some elected offices are literally owned by people.
Good point, but it's "Rangel" not Wrangle.
No. Just….no. n nAfter watching my idiot neighbors elect an empty suit with no work experience to the House, simply because he's named Kennedy, spare us a repeat in the Senate. n nI watched the voters of MA-4 reject a USMC(R) Major, with degrees from Georgetown, Wharton and the Harvard/JFK School, years of private sector experience, including managing the PackBot program at iRobot. Instead they picked a guy who refused to debate or be interviewed, with a grand total of three years as an irrelevant junior lawyer in a gov't office. He didn't even live in the district. n nNot again. Please
