China and Tibet
To the Editor:
. . . Edward N. Luttwak [“Seeing China Plain,” December 1976] has done a great service by presenting the deeper realities of the People’s Republic of China and its colonial treatment of countries like Tibet. Our information completely supports Mr. Luttwak’s conclusions.
It is unfortunate that the American public’s chief source of information about the current situation in Tibet should be Neville Maxwell’s recent series of articles in the New York Times. Mr. Maxwell universally praised the Chinese achievements and condemned pre-1950 Tibet but completely ignored the Chinese violation of human rights and fundamental freedoms in Tibet. Mr. Luttwak’s article, on the other hand, was commendable. . . .
