Du Maurier: George & Gerald
To the Editor:
In the October issue of your admirably edited magazine, I find an error in Mr. Edmund Wilson’s article (“Notes on Gentile Pro-Semitism”) which I am sure you and he would want to correct. I am referring to the part where Mr. Wilson discusses du Maurier’s famous novels, Peter Ibbetson, Trilby, and The Martian. In his discussion of these books he confuses their author, George du Maurier, with his son, Gerald. George, of course, was the famous artist of Punch and the author of the remarkable novels, which he wrote years later. Gerald was a distinguished actor. The full details can be found in the Encyclopedia Britannica. . . .
