Freud: On War, Sex and Neurosis, by Sander Katz

- Abstract

The nine papers in this collection effect the terrible sadness which grew in Sigmund Freud; the result of his gradual loss of faith in the power of reason and his consequent disillusionment with humanity. In a larger work like Die Traumdeutung we share Freud’s sense of exhilaration as he works out the intricacies of his theory, but since the editors have chosen for this edition minor essays that present only conclusions, and little of the theoretical considerations on which they are based, there is no exhilaration—we share only the sadness.
