Israel: The Beginning and Tomorrow, by Hal Lehrman
- Abstract
There is little doubt that this is the best book on Israel to date. Mr. Lehrman is an acute, accurate, and tactful reporter, who knows that objectivity means not a wishy-washy refusal to take sides, but a determination to include the facts which do not square with your own convictions, and to state your opponents’ position fairly before demolishing it. His book is controversial in the best sense of the word, a pugnacious contribution to the debate about Israel’s future. If it receives the circulation it deserves, no one will have any excuse for being ignorant of the salient facts when he voices an opinion on the main political, religious, and economic issues which confront the Jews of the Diaspora.
