Libertarianism

- Abstract

To the Editor:

In her discussion of my Radicals for Capitalism: A Freewheeling History of the Modern American Libertarian Movement and Brink Lindsey’s The Age of Abundance, Kay S. Hymowitz has some pointed words for the libertarian philosophy of minimal government and unfettered freedom [“Freedom Fetishists,” September]. She writes: “it is difficult to separate the reasons for our abiding social disarray”—by which she means primarily the breakdown of the family—“from the trends that Doherty and Lindsey praise and for which libertarians bear a measure of responsibility.”
