Martin
To the Editor:
Joseph Epstein’s remembrance [“My Friend Martin,” December 1982] is one of the most touching and human pieces that I have ever read. In describing his friend’s traits with warmth and understanding, appreciating both his distinctive qualities and his shortcomings, Mr. Epstein has presented a rounded portrait of Everyman—and literary style at its very best.

To the Editor:
I read Joseph Epstein’s “My Friend Martin” and was moved by it. It is written with tenderness and yet a sense of foreboding. It evokes the ghosts of our own Martins. . . .
