To the Editor:
Gabriel Schoenfeld’s review of Robert S. McNamara’s In Retrospect [Books in Review, June] deserves praise and an expression of gratitude from those of us who saw in most reviews of the book yet another extension of “received opinion” on the Vietnam war.
Mr. Schoenfeld’s piece should be required reading for all the young victims of “tenured dishonesty” in academia. It should also be brought to the attention of veterans’ organizations; they should know that someone still honors sacrifices made in a just cause and has the skill and courage to present a comprehensive defense of their case.
