Commentary Magazine

Praise from the Pacific

To the Editor:

I wish to thank you so much for the excellent magazine that you publish. Your perspective is something exceedingly hard to find in publications of today, and one which vanished from the general press years ago. I refer specifically to articles that reveal a depth of understanding and analysis, like “Hiss, Chambers, and the Age of Innocence,” and Herbert Lüthy’s “Why Five Million Frenchmen Vote Communist.”

To the Editor:

Let me take this occasion to congratulate you on the superlative quality and evocative profundity of your magazine. . . . Let us, however, have more controversy and diversification in your letter columns. . . .

To the Editor:

I feel called upon to write and tell you how moved I was by the article “San Nicandro’s Jews in Israel,” by Phinn Lapide, in the September COMMENTARY. . . .
