Praise

To the Editor:

The December issue of COMMENTARY—with its timely, informative, and authoritative articles on the Middle East, East Europe, and on the analysis of Nehru—is so excellent that I want to write and tell you about it. I can think of no other monthly that contains so much “meat” in one issue. This is not to detract from the importance of the other articles in this issue or from any other issue of COMMENTARY. There is almost a consistent excellence in all of them.

To the Editor:

What a risk George Lichtheim took to write about the Middle East (“Suez and the Western Powers,” October) at a time when none of the issues involved were as yet resolved. Yet, it is extraordinary that his piece, even in the light of subsequent events, reads so well. If he were writing it today he would have to change almost nothing.
