Segregation in Housing

To the Editor:

Charles Abrams’ article “The Segregation Threat in Housing,” in the February COMMENTARY, points up a problem that has serious possibilities. Even though I have worked on a specific problem of this kind in housing in Trenton, N. J., I had not quite thought of it on the scale brought out by Mr. Abrams.

I have written a member of the Housing Agency for his views on the question, and will arrange to talk it over with him more fully, in the hope that I can help correct the present segregation effects in public housing.

To the Editor:

I am glad to add my comment to those of others on the article by Mr. Charles Abrams in your February issue. It appears to be an excellent statement of the situation and a clear exposition of the complications that have to be met in dealing with evasions and segregatory practices. We have an editorial comment on Mr. Abrams’ article in the February 19 issue of America.

To the Editor:

Charles Abrams’ article, “The Segregation Threat in Housing,” is, in our opinion, one of the finest of the many contributions he has made to the racial relations phase of housing. It is indeed challenging to the government and citizenry of our democracy. . . .
