To the Editor:
. . . COMMENTARY’s symposium, “The American 80′s: Disaster or Triumph?” [September], provided a veritable orgy of food for thought on the 80′s and the Reagan administration. The balance of positive and negative comment was an elegant and sumptuous feast. . . . A few correspondents, to be sure, best exemplified by Paul Berman, were obviously in such pain and agony while grudgingly admitting the pyrrhic “victory” of capitalism over the Communist world that one could feel the pain sympathetically. . . .
