The Light Touch

To the Editor:

In these parlous times full of grim foreboding it is indeed an unexpected pleasure to find a piece of writing that makes one laugh uproariously. That Werner J. Dannhauser should have generated this mirth in a review of The Obituary Book by Alden Whitman [Books in Review, September] is all the more a tribute to Mr Dannhauser’s exquisitely light touch in an age of belching solemnities. A light and civilized piece of writing. Thank you, Mr. Dannhauser.
