The Rising Tide of Jew-Hatred

- Abstract

The Rising Tide of Jew-Hatred

The 2011 U.S. State Department International Religious Freedom Report was released at the end of July, and the results relating to Jews worldwide were, as expected, appalling. Among those countries singled out were:

• Egypt, where anti-Semitic incitement in the media and popular culture was a major factor even before the Muslim Brotherhood took over for the Mubarak regime;

• Iran, where official government anti-Semitism and support for Holocaust denial created a hostile environment for the Jewish community that remains in the country;

•  the Palestinian territories, where both the Palestinian Authority and Hamas publish and broadcast anti-Semitic incitement and call for the death of Jews, and where Muslim riots have resulted in violence against Jews;

•  and Venezuela, where the Hugo Chávez regime has engaged in hatred against Jews and declared Zionism “racist.”

This report was issued by an administration that continues to believe in diplomacy with Iran, has established relations with the Muslim Brotherhood, has called for Israel to make concessions to the Palestinians, and does not regard the Chávez regime as a threat.

Not One Moment for Israelis but Six for London

Those who requested a moment of silence for the victims of the 1972 Munich massacre during the opening ceremonies of the London Olympics predictably failed to move the hearts of the International Olympic Committee. The IOC refused to allow even a minute during their televised extravaganza to be devoted to the memory of Munich because they saw it as somehow “political.” And yet nearly six minutes of the show was devoted to commemorating the victims of the July 7, 2005, London subway bombings. While there is nothing wrong with honoring those lost in London to Islamist terrorism, the IOC’s unwillingness to note the assault on Olympic athletes and coaches at the games betrays its motives.
