Vested Interests

- Abstract

ALL my childhood was spent among Communists, in Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. When I was six I went with my mother to spend a few days in a cabin on the outskirts of a place called Workers Camp, a summer camp for children. I was too young to be a full member, but my older brother saluted the red flag every morning and sang the “Internationale” while I watched from a distance, aching to be old enough to participate.
