Gloria Borger just said that McCain has rebranded the Republican Party. I think she’s right. And it’s a good thing. For too long, the GOP has been simply trying to rely on Reagan’s legacy, a good deal of which was squandered by the Republican-controlled Congress. The real change in this election is taking place in the GOP, not in the Democratic Party.
This is a challenge to the culture of narcisim that has overtaken this society. It is really quite radical. It isn’t just a slogan. It’s a life-changing, country-changing challenge.
Obama is the golden man. He’s never been tested by anything more challenging than winning an election against Alan Keyes. McCain is a true hero. And he shouldn’t be afraid to talk about this. Finally, he’s able to share his stories with the American people.
Nice way to bring up his efforts to reform immigration before a crowd that largely disagrees with him.
This is a little odd. Government doesn’t train our workers. I am not sure who put that line in, but it’s off-base.
He’s good on this. He’s much more specific than Obama was. And he’s believable, which Obama was not.
He’s right. An unemployment check does little. I wish he’d talk about precisely what his alternative would do. This is risky, but McCain is a risk-taker.
Not many people know how out of whack our tax system is and how it stifles job creation. I wish he’d talked more about this.
This is a pretty remarkable speech. He’s criticizing his own party. He’s not running away from the disaffection.
This guy has class. Same can’t be said for Obama and his emails.
That green screen suggest a technical malfunction. There is supposed to be something projected onto the green screen and it isn’t coming through.
The Left has such class. They just unfurled a banner: You Can’t Win an Occupation.
I’ve never heard this before. It was quite beautiful–even poetic.
Donna Brazile just said that she thinks these attacks on Barack Obama are scurrilous. Imagine–Republicans are criticizing Barack Obama. I don’t remember anything like that happening in Denver last week. There was not one word of criticism of John McCain at that convention, right? And certainly Barack Obama didn’t say a negative word, did he?
Jen is right. I am in Colorado–stuck at a hotel near the airport–and I watched Cindy McCain’s speech with a group of guests watching in the lobby. They were very impressed– knew nothing about her or McCain’s family, but she hit a responsive chord.
Every one of the Dem commentators tonight has mentioned that Palin gave a good speech. Then they go on to say that that giving a good speech isn’t qualification to be vice president. I guess their point is that the GOP should have nominated her to be president, since clearly the ability to give a good speech is why they chose Obama.
John King just noted that Palin was speaking to small town America and said “George W. Bush is president because of small town America.”
Gee, the media is getting a little nervous that maybe they overplayed their hand. Gregory just implied that because of the controversy millions of people probably watched this speech who might not have before the attacks.
This was an amazing performance. I don’t know anyone who has faced what she has this week who could do what she did tonight. She is holding that beautiful baby Trig and standing there proudly with her family. And if America doesn’t fall in love, then its heart has turned to stone.
She’s wicked! She can insult without sounding bitter.
The women in this crowd are beaming. I can’t believe they’re alone. I’m grinning ear-to-ear and I bet there are lots of other women out there who are feeling this woman represents them.
She was a little shakey at first. But when she’s speaking from the heart she is terrific. This appeal to small town America is perfect. The Dems are right to be terrified of this woman, which is why they have tried to destroy her.
