Where Is Tim Russert?

John Podhoretz - 05.04.2008 - 9:15 AM

Ten minutes into Barack Obama’s appearance on Meet the Press, one has to wonder who replaced Tim Russert with this pained, quiet-voiced, candy-dispositioned fanboy. “Could you have handled this better,” Russert asks Obama about Jeremiah Wright, “and what have you learned from this?” I think, maybe, it’s Barbara Walters in a wig. The interesting thing is that even with these softballs being thrown at him, Obama sounds uncertain and uncomfortable.

Russert was brutal while questioning Rudy Giuliani on MTP, and helped sabotage Rudy’s quest for the White House. What a difference when you have a (D) after your name. Tim Russert is still the political hack for the Democrats that he has been.

I think he has been more obvious recently . . apparently MSNBC has emboldened him. Surprised that he wasn’t wearing an Obama ‘08 Button.

Russert was, and always will be, a Democratic operative.

He’ll do nothing to help Operation Chaos achieve its goals, not even conduct a fair journalistic interview.

Russert is in the tank for the greater good of the Democratic Party. To expect anything else from him is wishful thinking.

What’s the difference between Barbara Walters and Tim Russert? One has had a passionate affair with a charismatic African-American Senator, and the other is Barbara Walters.

    Mr. Podhoretz,

I’m surprised that you’re surprised by Russert’s poodle approach. Russert is perhaps the most over-rated interviewer around.

The Sunday “news” shows are usually worth missing. In the Soviet Union, the workers had a saying: “We pretend to work, and they pretend to pay us”. The Sunday shows’ motto could be: “We pretend to ask questions, and they pretend to answer them”.

TIM RUSSART ACES SENIOR SOFTBALL LEAGUE

Tim Russart clearly wanted to give Obama an easy time in the national spotlight. It was softball pitching for the whole hour. I’m surprised he didn’t ask, “Sen. Obama, what makes you so great?”

One meatball over the plate after another. Watch Obama tee off on another underhand toss. Meanwhile ol George is trying to repair his image at Hillary’s expense over on ABC. I think voters are smart enough to see who the MSM wants to win the nomination.

    Russert, Matthews and Moyers
    Sycophants, fawners and cloyers
“He sends tingles up my leg”
“He doesn’t have to ask me to beg”
“We built a statue of him in our foyers!”

Even so, Obama gave stupid answers to any question that threatened to touch on a liberal hot point. For example, he blamed food shortages on ‘climate change.’ When asked about nuclear power, he mumbled the typical liberal idiocy, forgot we haven’t built a new reactor in 30 years, and said something to the effect that “everything they build one of the these things they have to re-design it.” The people who lap up this pap can’t be that stupid by accident.

Russert used to pretend to be Fair and Balanced, but the Scooter Libby seems to have flipped him to unabashed lib-kisser.
