When someone says he's against something (e.g., Palestinian rocketing of Israel), but objects to all available ways to stop or prevent it, we can guess that he's really for it.

Hey, the liberal position is decent and moral. Certainly they're opposed to Hamas tossing rockets at Israeli civilians but the Israeli response entails violence, and as we all know, violence never settles anything. Besides, the Israeli attack has caused pain and suffering, especially to women, children, and minority groups.

Israel's ideal response is obvious: it should do something that doesn't entail violence and doesn't cause any pain or destruction.

OK, that's setting forth the policies. Let the technicians figure out exactly how to do it while we bask in our own virtue as peace-loving people who can see all sides of a question.

I hold out more hope for Europeans, ordinary Europeans, coming to their senses, than I do for those Jews who vote Democrat.

They voted for Carter, they voted for Hillary, despite her hobnobbing with Palestinians, they loved Bill, and still do, despite his taking tens of millions from petrokingdoms and trying to strongarm Israel into a deal that was NEVER in her strategic interest.

They voted for Kerry, who like Obama, surrounded himself with "advisers" who demonstrated an antipathy towards Israel, ........................... and thus for Jews.

And their display of support for Obama, ------------------------- utterly squalid, utterly unseemly.

Europeans by contrast get a DAILY dose of mohammedan reality, and that's IN ADDITION to the anecdotal evidence swirling across Europe. The more the politically correct masters of Europe try to clamp down on even the mention of mohammedan reality, the more people are getting frightened, of what is to become of them, what is to become of the land their fathers bequeathed them, what is to become of a culture that they assiduously bash, but know deep down, is DEMONSTRABLY SUPERIOR to all others.

They're getting scared to death.

Imagine walking down streets of Europe, and seeing the veils everywhere, seeing them with children by the dozens, knowing about the rapes, the gang rapes, the beatings, the threatenings, the thefts, the violence, and knowing, SEEING all around you, YOUR FUTURE AND THAT OF YOUR CHILDREN.

No.

The Europeans are going to rouse themselves, BIG TIME.

The mohammedans only have to obliterate some art work, and they will, and that will be like a light to a fuse, which is already smoldering.

Mike K, great link - from the CSM of all places. Yes, the Dems are in deep, deep denial. But let's face it, it's a party with a hypercredentialled, disproportionately Jewish elite and an ill-informed, largely nonwhite rank and file. That's a recipe for platitudes and paralysis IMHO.

that didn't make sense on many levels.

anyway, when americans are allowed to see both sides of this dispute then we can listen to what they have to say about it. I'ts not taught in schools and it certainly isn't covered fairly in the media thanks to you know who

What is truly amazing is that Democrats are now, or will soon be less sympathetic to Israel than is Europe.

In the Gaza conflict, "European diplomats see a crisis with no exit point," says a senior French scholar with extensive Mideast experience. "They think if the Israelis can put out Hamas and put in Abbas, that would be wonderful. They don't see Hamas as Palestinian nationals, but as Islamic."

A Euro-American convergence leaves European Union diplomats supporting Palestinians on "shallower emotional and humanitarian grounds," says Mr. Bitar, "helping people survive, hoping economic improvement is enough, and forgetting the old issues of substance, and Israeli occupation. The two-state solution is nearly dead."

Europe itself is not the Europe of decades past, dominated by French diplomacy, with its Arab ties. There are 27 nations. Eastern and former Soviet states, like Poland and the Czech Republic, often take American positions on foreign affairs. As Prague took over the EU presidency last week, it issued a statement that Israel's actions in Gaza were "defensive" – later backing down under French and British censure.

The Palestinians are losing their European enablers just as Democrats get ready to abandon another democracy.

Yet since Sept. 11, a discourse that advocates a tough confrontation with Islam has emerged in Europe – based in part on Samuel Huntington's "clash of civilization" theory – in such venues as the French magazine "Brave New World." Sarkozy has been congenial to these points.

Interesting to see who is becoming more realistic and who is fleeing reality.

On the other hand, the US Senate voted unanimously in favor of Israel and 390 members of the House voted for Israel's right to self defense. There was not too much hand-wringing in those resolutions about the citizens of Gaza. If this is an expression of the "people," then its is pretty good.
