I respect advanced degrees as much as the next person (goodness knows mine came in handy), but between the surge and the financial mess, we seem to be overwhelmed with evidence that the “experts” aren’t very expert on really big issues. Being a technocrat doesn’t make one wise.

Lots of buzz about Palin smears from an ad agency related to the Obama campaign. Yes, if a juicy mystery existed about a nefarious ad agency attack on a Democrat it would be on the front pages of the major newspapers. But regardless of how much coverage it garners, it is not very New Politics is it?

This poll suggests women think McCain-Palin understands their concerns more than Obama-Biden. Well at least the part about getting  a female VP.

How concerned are Democrats that Obama is less than two points ahead of McCain in Pennsylvania? Very, I suspect. Not like Hillary Clinton didn’t warn them. But there is plenty of polling to make everyone nervous.

Not a headline Democrats want to see: “Uncharacteristically low turnout for Barack Obama rally in Green Bay, Wisc.” And the sub-header is even worse: “McCain/Palin drew 4,000 more supporters at same venue a week ago.” But does it matter or is this all about the people sitting home on the couch?

You kind of wonder why the McCain camp was waiting to send this one around. Yes, it seemed like just yesterday McCain was the Democrats’ favorite pro-regulatory and reform-happy Republican.

John Bolton is right, Marty Peretz argues, about North Korea. And if Bolton is right, then must not Barack Obama be wrong? (The same is true for Iran and Iraq, but let’s take one foreign policy misjudgment at a time.)
