Flotsam and Jetsam

Jennifer Rubin - 10.02.2008 - 8:03 AM

Whatever your political beliefs, the intolerance for dissent and the hair-trigger resort to political thuggery by the Obama camp should concern every American.  Must-read doesn’t begin to describe this piece.

Why isn’t the prospect of hundreds of millions of dollars in potentially illegal foreign donations to the Obama campaign a big story? This will make the Clintons’ Chinese haul look like loose change.

This is precisely right: “The real heroes of the House are the members who tried to reform Fannie when that was unpopular and are now trying to defend the financial system while that too is difficult.”

Joe Biden’s tall tales are drawing some attention. Will he be asked about them in a debate? Poor Hillary Clinton was vilified for a single “fantasy” incident.

This isn’t encouraging: “[Gwen] Ifill questions why people assume that her book will be favorable toward Obama.” Could it be the fawning book promo that she recorded hailing him a leader of a new generation of African Americans? The only thing worse than media bias is deceitful concealment of that bias.

And then we learn that she didn’t tell the Presidential Debate Commission about the book. Okay, that’s not good. If you were on the Debate Commission what would you do now? Sounds like Linda’s disclaimer is in order. At the very least.

“Bidenism”: a political ailment which renders anyone who comes in contact with the subject “stupid.”

I realize it is friendly turf, but the interview with Sean Hannity does show considerable improvement by Sarah Palin. Imagine how much better she’d be if she had been doing this for three weeks.

Stephen Hayes asks a rhetorical  question: “With less than four months left in his term, the question of this: Is the president in charge of his foreign policy or has he completely handed it off to his Secretary of State?”

Liberals are confused about the “right to privacy” and assume Palin made a gaffe. Justices Alito and Roberts confirmed that there is a right of privacy in the U.S. Constitution. The fight remains over the extent of that right and whether it encompasses the right to abortion.

Maybe Nancy Pelosi’s problem is poor nutrition. She apparently eats either chocolate ice cream or a chocolate doughnut for breakfast.
