Committee assignments for members of congress are not usually geared to their strong suit, assuming they have one. The reality is that many members of congress are only as good as their staff and when given an opportunity, will go off the reservation, as is the case with these two representatives on the Judiciary Committee. It would appear as a case of introducing an issue that plays well back home, places where they have not experienced any form of a terrorist attack. I suspect that the public is on to these grandstanding events given the long term approval/disapproval ratings "earned" by congress. Not to say there is no opportunity to learn, just yesterday I discovered from a Florida congressswoman (Democrat) that the Republicans are the cause of the Democratic delegate problems within Florida! It pays to pay attention to the mutterings of the many members of congress! Really!

George W. Bush is a is a politically correct whack job. He is also a graduate of Harvard University. That's probably all you really need to know. One should always be suspicious about those graduating from an "elite" academic institution. The American citizens are starting learn the truth concerning the NY Times and the other MSM outlets. We can only hope they also soon take another look at the "ivy" schools.

It's useful to read the whole WaPo piece, which reveals this gem:

"Mr. Chertoff responded that Mr. Watt [D-NC] shouldn't judge his staff based purely on appearance.

" 'I wouldn't assume that the ethnic background of everybody behind me is self-evident," he said.

"Mr. Watt took that as a challenge, telling him, 'I think I know an African-American when I see one.' "

"He asked any staffer who was black or female to rise, then demanded that the record reflect 'that nobody stood up to volunteer in either one of those categories.' "

Remember, these are the folks who tell you THEY know when there's been a national security policy or intelligence failure. Given their powers of analysis and deduction, and their gift for focused relevancy, we had certainly better listen to them.
