He explained that he had an extremely high level of mercury in his blood—perhaps from eating too much sushi. How did the tough-guy playwright respond to this fishy excuse? Mamet told Daily Variety, “my understanding is that [Piven] is leaving show business to pursue a career as a thermometer.”
