About the Author

Edmund Wilson is widely acknowledged as the dean of American literary critics. His most recent book, The Bit Between My Teeth, was published this year by Farrar, Straus & Giroux. An earlier assessment by Mr. Wilson of S. Y. Agnon's fiction appeared in Red, Black, Blond, and Olive, published by Oxford in 1956.
